Any hikers or backpackers that have torn their ACL?

So I apperenlty tore my ACL 3 weeks ago at an indoor trampoline park! I'm currently doing physio and my knee is getting better. But I'm worried about the instability issue. I was told about the surgery, but was hesitant, mostly because of it's recovery time and also the fact that it doesn't always bring the knee back to 100%. Seeing as how I'm not much of a sports kinda gal. But I do love hiking and my main passion is backpacking. After seeing my family doctor last night, he recommended getting the MRI done, even though he is pretty confident that the ACL is torn. Then he recommended scheduling the surgery. I'm just wondering if there are other backpackers out there, that may have torn their ACL, have you had the surgery? Would you recommend it?
