Started desk job, time to start keeping track

Hello! I'm somewhat new to the site, used the app on my phone on and off for a couple of years. That was when I used to work in a warehouse getting lots of exercise. Decided to create a new account and start from scratch.

My story. 4 years ago I was 220 lbs and working in a call center, doing next to nothing except playing video games outside of work. Then, I got a job in a warehouse. Working there got me down to 170 lbs and it felt great! Now I've moved on to a career in I.T. so I'm doing nothing but sitting at a desk all day, sending emails, answering phones, and fixing peoples computer issues.

Now that I've been doing I.T. work for two months I've put back on 10 lbs.... I DON"T LIKE IT! I'm back on the old path. So I'm here! I was given a stair stepper machine and a home gym from my partner's parents, but they've been sitting in the basement unused for months. Now I've got them both set up and am ready to get back on the healthy path.

My goal is to get to my dream weight of 150 lbs. Or, maybe a possibly unrealistic,140 lbs.

Wish me luck! Feel free to add me.

Eat at a calorie deficit and log everything, its the only way to know. For me the exercise makes it easier and allows me to eat more food. I now love the exercise but you will need to get through the getting started phase first. Good luck!

    well done for noticing!

my weight gain was primarily because i didn't think about the effect of my changing lifestyle when I moved from a big city commuting by bicycle, and moderately active role to a more static (sit at desk and prod computer - i do a lot of programming and numerical modelling) role in a rural area where i'm dependent on a car.

if you're going for a lifetime change to fit your lifestyle change then get ready for the long haul, it's about logging accurately and regularly

weight loss is about calorie deficit: consuming (don't forget the calories you drink) less than you burn

i like to get some of my calorie deficit from excercise, and i've set up my bike on a static base in the sitting room at home and (though it spent a year in the garage) i'm now using it a couple of times a week

The tough bit is getting into the habit of logging, and measuring when you cook and eat, and i've found that active friends really help, feel free to add me, if you like - the next tough bit is getting over the inevitable slump when the rate of weight loss drops after the first couple of weeks - that's what friends are for.

I don't do cheat days, if i deserve a treat I eat it

I started logging around 190 and i'm aiming for 145

    good luck with your journey
