As much as I hate to admit it - It's offically fall. Yikes! I don't look forward to winter ( I don't know why I live in Wisconsin ) and I don't look forward to the holidays.
With my birthday/Halloween right around the corner, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (Under 12 weeks away!) how is a gal suppose to stay focused and on track? With the ever growing candy dishes at work and all of the holiday parties - how are we suppose to lose weight? (or in my case - not gain!)
So - I have set a goal for myself - 6 pack abs by Christmas.
Yikes - that's a tough thing to get to - but if I have a goal in mind it should help me stay on track - right?

What are you plans for staying on track this holiday season?
Are you setting any goals?
Any tricks?

Oh I hate the temptations of the holidays. Last year I didn't do to good. I didn't gain but I also stopped losing. This year my goal is just to keep on trucking! I really want to get the last of this weight off. It kills me to think about all the months last year that I wasted because I could probably be at my goal weight by now.

As of this moment..but things may change I plan on doing what I have always done....I bake a lot and make a lot of candy but this year I will give care packages, oops I mean gifts away. I know that if I take everything away from me I will binge so therefore I will limit myself. As long as I can bake and make things I will be ok, for me it is not about eating it but doing the process.

Good Luck and I want to see what others are planning on doing.

My best advice is BYOF- Bring treats to the parties that are filling and try to stick mainly to them (someone posted a pumpkin oatmeal cookie that clocks in at about 65 cals per). For any non-thanksgiving holiday/party eat your main meal of the day before going- something with protein and preferably spicy. Also take advantage of the party atmosphere and do stuff- touch football or goofy dancing or just a walk with the fam. If you are doing things with your family, you will be enjoying them and not worrying about what you're eating. Plus making a bit of room for the extra holiday treats.
  • Gah!! I don't know. Guess just take it one day at a time.

Yesterday I saw Eggnog at Walmart!! :noway:

You know I love food :) Thanksgiving and christmas are only once per year (so is your birthday btw) and I think those days should be enjoyed. I can care less about all the halloween candy, and extra stuff that is being tossed at you before the holiday. But on the actual holiday I will eat my fair share ;)

How I see it is to stay strong until the actual holiday but then enjoy.

My plan for the Holidays is to boycott them all together.

Since that probably won't work- Practicing portion control and adding extra workouts are the back up plan.

Good Luck to us all as temptation of the holidays rapidly approaches!!

I am not to worried about Halloween & thanksgiving but Christmas is a whole another story. Every year I make cookies for gifts and lots of them andwhen you have fresh hot chocolate chip cookie comeing out of the oven oh my is that hard. And there is also the Christmas high tea and Christmas eve and day and somewhere in there a couble of Christmas party. Oh my what I am going to do ugh. The only goal I have right now is to loss 30 more pounds hopeful before I get pregnant but I am getting a bit of baby fever. The only cure for that is a baby I am sure of that. Good luck to every o e staying skinny this holiday season.

I'm the same way Mary, I love to bake. I work to find community bake sales and volunteer to make goodies for them. I get to bake and it goes to a great fundraising cause!

I love your goal and I absolutely think it will help with staying on track through the holidays. Good luck! I hope you'll post pics. How awesome would that be to give yourself a Christmas or New Years gift of 6 pack abs!!!

I LOVE the holidays!!! I bake a LOT and give a lot of edible gifts and I always have yummy things around this time of year. I'm planning what I'll make now and I'm starting to try some new recipes. I am trying to use more substitutions and make things less caloric this year, but making them yummy is my first priority.

I haven't really been concerned with my weight in many years (that's why I'm in this shape!) so I'm not sure if I gain weight during the holidays, but I don't ever notice my clothes fitting differently, so I would guess that I don't really gain and this year, I'll be more aware of what I'm eating and making sure I'm exercising, so I'm planning to maintain. I'm hoping to reach my goal weight in early December and then to maintain forever!!! My plan is mostly just to log absolutely everything I eat. I will eat some of the baked goods, but I'll have very small portions and enjoy every single morsel of it.

I think my biggest problems that have caused me to gain weight in the past are late night snacking and stress eating. The stress eating is usually from when my children are particularly fussy all day and I reach for a handful of chocolate chips or something like that...or when my mother is over, she tends to stress me out in a matter of seconds of her arrival. I have been successful in overcoming these the past few months by being very diligent in logging absolutely everything I eat, and making sure I weight it to get fairly accurate calorie counts. It's a big mental thing for me, I'm a tiny bit obsessive and I just refuse to go over my calorie limit for the day. It may happen that some day I will go over, but I'm going to try really hard to not let that happen. Making sure that I get in some exercise everyday helps a lot too. It really helps me deal with stress without resorting to chocolate!

So, my plan for the holidays is to
    Log EVERYTHING I eat,
Do NOT go over my calorie limit,
Plan what I'm going to eat and stick to the plan - NO SAMPLING WHILE BAKING!
    Regular exercise!

    I hope my plan works!

    Good luck!

My plan for holiday get togethers is by pass all crappy little sweets and go straight for the meat and salads :)

Goal: In 10 weeks time, have gained 3-4kg, upped numbers on bench, squat, deadlift and overhead press, compete in Brazillian Jui-Jitsu comp and do half decent :P
