Cookie dough vs willpower mega fail

I was doing so well yesterday - had a good eating day, stuck to my plan. Then my kids asked me to make some cookies for them to take to school this week. So, after dinner, when I had finished eating everything I had planned to for the day, I made cookies. And ate the dough. I made enough cookies for the kids to take to school and for me to take to the office, and then ate the rest of the dough. It was a lot. I felt really sick afterwards, but more annoyed at myself that I didn't have enough self-control (again) to just keep baking the cookies and give them away.

This morning, my digestive system reacted violently to the overload of sugar, so I guess I cleaned out the system a bit. Also went for an 8km (5 mile) walk with my husband, which was nice. I'm not going to bake any cookies again for a few weeks - we're moving overseas and I won't have the time or the ingredients, which I guess is a blessing in disguise.

I'm just really annoyed at myself - I had committed myself yesterday morning to eating well after recording a relatively high weight on the scales after a weekend of overeating (my daughter's birthday and mine) and then I just couldn't help myself with the cookie dough.

But, today is a new day. And I can make good choices today. And that is all I can work on at the moment.

Unless you're someone who never gained weight in the first place, food will ALWAYS eventually win over willpower. You can't rely on willpower to prevent you from eating. You just need to plan ahead better.

Baking tons of cookies late at night after you've already maxed out your calories is asking for it. If you're going to be doing late night baking, then make sure you save up calories so you can indulge in some of whatever you're making. It's not hard to resist eating early in the day if you know you're going to be able to eat cookies later.

Thanks for the advice - unfortunately the request for baking the cookies came at dinner time - and were required for this morning. But normally, if I do bake cookies, and over-indulge while baking and afterwards, I will reduce the amount I eat afterwards! And exercise lots too.

I just want to be able to eat normally again - not over-eating, then feeling sick and not wanting to eat again.

    You did very well, Funky.

It was a one-time case of gluttony and it had unpleasant consequences. Very importantly, you are aware of it and not making excuses or hiding it. You were tempted at an especially vulnerable time, around dinner when your body is getting primed to eat something, and there it was.

Hmm ... what to do when making cookies or other sweets ...
Some people snack by putting a limited number of chips in a bowl instead of eating from the bag.
You could set aside a certain amount of dough just for you, maybe the size of an olive.
Then have it as a reward after baking all the other dough.

shake it off and keep your head up. The next time you feel weak, remember this exact feeling. The feeling of disappointing yourself. Imagine how you would feel right now if you didnt give in last night? You would be so proud of yourself. Try to make it happen next time!!!

Thanks for the comments and the suggestions. Unfortunately, it wasn't just a one-time occurrence - this has been happening quite frequently recently. I just need to either stop baking cookies or have more self-control - I'm going for the not baking for a while ...
