Da, da, da, dummmm.....SODIUM!

I see so many posts about the dreaded sodium and have learned alot about it., and how to avoid it. I do have one question that I'm a little embarrassed to ask, it may sound silly. But hey!, we're family right?

The common suggestion when it comes to sodium is to drink water to flush it out. The normal recommendation for water is 8 glasses per day. But I'm wonderiing if there is a formula for flushing the sodium? For instance, this weekend I was in a hurry and ordered an Egg McMuffin from Mickey D's. I thought I did pretty good by only eating 1/2 of it, but once I keyed it in, I realized there was more sodium in that one item than I would like to consume in a single item.

So, my thought is.... it would be nice to know, for instance "8 oz of water flushes 50mg grams of sodium, so I should drink an additonal 3 glasses of H2O today" Is there such a thing? Or does everyone just drink as much as they can hold?

Also, while I'm on the boards - Does anyone have have guidelines per content? Meaning, an item over XX grams of fat is considered high fat and should be avoided, or XX grams of sodium, etc.

I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out! Proud of the small changes, but anxious to make even more in the quest for healtly living!

Yikes, I think your overthinking it. Just drink lots of water, sweat, and pick better choices next time. You don't have to be perfect in everything. Just generaly heathy and active, and eating nutritious whole foods. You are doing great, recording everything is an education and your persistance is getting results. Keep it up.
  • Hey you know from my news feed that I've been struggling with the sodium and while I can't get as technical as you'd like, when I first started my fitness program I was taught to drink at least half my weight in water everyday. At the time I thought that was being a bit optimistic but I worked my way up to drinking almost a gallon a day [132 Oz I Think It Is Roughly]

As soon as my water consumption slowed down [thanx college] I started retaining more water from the sodium in my food. Now I'm at this screeching halt altogether so I'm back to trying to drink my gallon a day which would actually be just under half my weight now.
