OK- Maybe a Dumb question- spinach is so tough to measure. I use the food scale and when its steamed or cooked i feel like it shrinks so much and seems heavier... my scale says it weighs more-

Is it the water?

Do you weigh it before or after steaming it? How do you log it.

  • that's because when it's cooked, spinach looses water, making it wilt. What I normally do is see whatever recipe I'm using it for calls for, and measure it both before cooking and after. Not only does this seem more accurate for me, but I can also gauge for future about how much spinach it takes raw to make a measured cooked amount.

I know pasta and meat is usually weighed pre-cooked so I'd image it's the same for veggies. Sometimes the label will state if it's measured pre-cooked, cooked, or sometimes both.

I wouldnt worry about it, its so few calories that u can just add 3 cups or w/e and it should more than likely cover it

If I weigh spinach, I weigh it raw - whether I am eating it raw or steaming it.

But frankly, I rarely weigh it unless my scale happens to be out and ready. It has so few calories that I don't sweat it.
