interesting fact: (true or not?) My friend is going to a nutritionist that told her that you have to eat/drink something small within an hour of waking up.

She was told that if you don't at least have a handful of almonds, small glass of orange juice etc that your body will automatically start retaining 'cause it thinks it's starving.

anyone know if this is true?

I don't know about the starving thing but I have been told by my doctor that you should eat/drink something shortly after waking up b/c it gets your metabolism going for the day. By not doing that, you mess up your metabolism and prevent proper weightloss or maintaining of healthy weight.

I hope it's not true because I would throw up if I ate within an hour of waking! A cup of tea is all I can manage - particularly if I'm on early shift and have to get up at 5 a.m.

From what I understand, when you are in fat burning mode after a work out, you do not want to eat anything for 1 hours as your body will continue to burn fat when you stop.

With that said, every one is different and there could be a need for some people to have certain nutrtions that there work out would need to replace.

Sounds like a mix of information. I have heard that not eating most of your calories in a day your body will save what few cals you give it in the form of fat because the body believes it is starving. Also I have heard that eating something shortly after waking kick starts the metabolism. So I think either the Doc mixed up two facts, or your friend mixed up two facts that the doc told her.

I believe that to be true! I've read plenty of articles that have that same opinion.....however, do I follow it? Nope - I eat my breakfast when I get to work - about 2 hours after I'm up.

I would say FALSE.. your body isnt going into stavation mode that quickly, I never eat till about 2+ hours after I get up and never had a problem with this.

Maybe it is, but I'm managed to lose 30lbs and I'm not following it. I get up at 6 and don't eat/drink until shortly after 7. Soooo? I dunno.
I can't imagine getting up earlier just so I'd have time to eat before leaving for work, waste of sleep time ;-) lol

I've read that it does, that is why it is called break-fast. I don't eat right away because I jump out of bed and do cardio on an empty stomach, then wait one hour so my body is in fat burning mode. That is what I have read and also been told by personal trainers. If I don't do cardio, I eat within an hour of waking at least a bit of something.
