Monitor Gadgets, what are they?

I wanted to find out what do those gadgets ppl wear that look like a watch are? Do they accurately measure the calories you are burning? I am not very savvy with any of those but i would like to buy something that I can actually see the work I am doing when I workout... Help!

:)

could either be a pedometer (step counter) or a heart rate monitor (they would be wearing a chest strap and the readings would appear on the watch) to calculate heart rate and calorie burn

for HRM I have the FT4

Pedometer I have the fitbit zip (on my bra)

you might want to look into an all day pedometer like fitbit or polar loop. counts your steps you make all day. you upload it to the internet and can view your data.

another is a heart rate monitor (HRM) to monitor your heart rate and will calculate the calories your burn during steady cardio like walking or running

GPS enabled watch so you know how far you walked or ran, can also include an HRM.

I wear a vivofit (Garmin equivalent of a fitbit, pairs with Garmin Connect like Garmin watches do, it's just a different tab) and love it! Weekly step contests against some people I know and some that I don't! My wife loves her fitbit flex. They do work but I think both exaggerate the calorie burn. HRM will give you more accurate reading of calorie burn.
  • Hmm... sounds really fancy snacy... lol! I think I will be getting one of those so I can see exactly what I am burning! Thanks to both of you :)
