Hi there!

It wasn't that long ago that I was posting on the bride boards about getting in shape for my wedding last year... now, I'm happily married and the pounds have been creeping back! I've put on 10 lbs (my husband has lost 20), and I'm completely responsible for the gain! I think I still look OK, but a lot of my clothes are uncomfortable (skinny jeans are now WAY too skinny), I feel more sluggish, my body fat percentage has increased, and bottom line I'm afraid I'll keep gaining more if I don't stop.

I work out every morning (mix of cardio and weights, though I need way more weight training) and still log my food intake, but I have definitely been eating and drinking a lot more than usual. I look back at some of my diary entries from when I was in a dedicated wedding weight loss mode, and saw I'd workout each day and eat a couple hundred calories less than I do now. My huge issue lately, other than it being the worst winter ever and me grazing more than usual at my new job where I sit a lot more, is that I completely BLOW IT on the weekends and while traveling. (A weekday I'll eat around 1500 cals; weekends about 2500.)

We're going to Mexico for our one year anniversary in six weeks, and I'd love to get back to where I was. Newlyweds or otherwise, how do you handle life changes and keeping up your healthy lifestyle?! If you've re-lost your weight, was it easier or harder the second/third/forth time around?

  • Hi!

I understand exactly how you feel. I got married 3 months ago. In the past 3 months I've managed to put on 5-7 pounds. Now, 5 pounds may not sound like much on someone tall, but at 5' 5" and with a pretty small frame, anyone who says they can't see the difference is lying. I know exactly how I put on the weight. I used to go from work straight to the gym. Now, I go home to make dinner for my hubby more nights than not. I used to work out 7 days a week. Now I work out 4 days a week. I still ate sweets and the foods I wanted leading up to the wedding, but I ate a lot less of them then I do now.

So, I'm trying to cut back on in terms of quantity, eating smaller dinners, and spending more time on the treadmill. I just started, and I'm ok with it coming off slowly. I want to feel good about myself and stay at my wedding weight for a lifetime. But it is so easy to get carried away with enjoying home made meals and a bottle of wine with your new spouse. I guess we just have to plan for it. Good luck and happy early anniversary!
