Could someone please help with calories burned in spin?

I did a 45 minute class this morning, I weigh 181lbs and it was VERY intense, I gave it everything I had, was pouring in sweat and covered 21km! Proud of myself and my mum for getting through it, I thoroughly enjoyed it even though in parts I wanted to cry!
The calories online vary so wildly so I just wondered if you lovely people had an idea?

They vary so wildly because without help of scientific equipment it is damn near impossible to guess exactly. Even with a heart rate monitor reults will vary.
My suggestion and the way I do it is to look around and see what 3 or 4 different sites say then take a rough low average for instance for me it comes out at 450-600calories, (I am 134lbs) when I was losing weight I would always guess lower so then even if I was wrong the buffer is there. Now I am trying to gain I guess slightly higher so that again I have a buffer.0 -
every calculation gives and estimate based on assumptions like age, weight, weight
try a selection of calculations for spinning based on time
but you could also try some based on cycling and speed from your distance and time
if you're trying to lose weight then pick the lowest calories estimate or an average, and don't eat all the calories back0 -
Well...I burned 500 calories in the hour spin class that I had on Sunday, and that was according to my HRM. I am 140 lbs. So you would have burnt more than I did...if that helps.0

No-one can tell you how many calories you would burn - we can only tell you what we estimate our burns to be and that's not really going to help you any more than online "calculators".
You would need to be able to measure power to actually calculate calories.
As an example - I use a HRM when using an eSpinning bike. Both the HRM and the bike have my age, gender, weight and measure my heartbeat,
When I started out (fairly fit) the HRM would always estimate higher than the bike. Now I'm much fitter my heartrate is much lower for the same or more effort but my HRM now records a much lower burn than the bike. Example for an intense hour I can record 700+ cals on my HRM but the bike says 800+.
Really all you can do is pick a method of estimating, stick to it and make adjustments based on actual results.0 -
Great thanks everyone, I think I'm going to put in 450 as I know this is lower than what I will have burnt, plus I wont eat them anyway, I just like to be as accurate as possible.
Got a bloody HRM that I left in my bag, not much use there!0 -
haha yeah I was gonna say a HRM is probably the most accurate but in your bag.... not so accurate lol (hate it when that happens!)0
