Slow Slow Slow...losing weight the second time

In 2008 I was 28 years old. I started at 254 lbs and worked hard for 8 months and got down to 180 lbs..I'm 5'10 so somewhat tall and I looked and felt amazing though I def had another 10-20 lbs to lose.... unfortunately some life events got in the way, my favorite fitness instructor moved out of state, and then they closed the gym I loved, and I slowly began to put the weight back on and got back up to 247 lbs and have been there since then....

About a month ago I started again... this time my goal is to take it off and keep it off! But for some reason this time around the weight loss is going at a snails pace!!! I went the whole last week and really didn't lose anything, and I'm doing all the same stuff I did back then only a little different routine with working out trying to make it more fun... line dancing, zumba and volleyball.... I know how to track everything so it's not that...

Got to be my age now, almost 35... I'm having fun and don't want to stop but I'm worried if this slow pace keeps up I'm going to lose my mojo I have going. Anyone ever experienced the difference in weight coming off when you get older? what did you do to stay motivated?

Oh yes, we are the same age. I am 34 right now and I feel the same way. In my 20's I always stayed at 125 with no problem. I would weight myself all the time and if I saw I was gaining a couple of pounds, I would simply not eat dinner for 2 weeks and my weight would go back down. lol. Thats it. 2 weeks of no dinner and 5 lbs lost. Now? hah, I wish. It def has to do with our age :( Have to work much harder for the results we want. But thats ok, it is what it is. I just have to accept it and keep going.

haha Right! I remember it melting off back then!!!! I'm sure this all mental, but i'm starting to get frustrated by seeing the same weight on the scale forever. Youre right.. just gotta suffer through and be sure I do this before I turn 40 because I'm guessing it only gets worse as we get older... sigh.
  • Hi, you are not alone!!! I am also 35 and my weight loss has been slower than ever before!!! I've had many weeks since I started MFP that I lost nothing at all despite eating in my calorie range and exercising more than normal. It's EXTREMELY frustrating and hard to keep motivated!!! I was just reading about "weight loss plateus" last night and got a few tips I am going to try -- eat 100-200 calories less than you have been eating (that parts sucks!) and change up your exercise - if you normally jog then take up dance, etc, add in strength training to get your body out of it's normal routine.

So I guess as we get older we just have to work even harder!! Ugh! :) Good luck!

my weight loss is slower this time around, but i think mainly because i keep getting in the 'i did it before, i can do it again' mentality and have a day off, then a weekend off, then a bit more...
not saying that's what you're doing, but i know i put way more effort in the first time around. wish i could get that long term motivation back!
