appointments with the transplant team...

When I told the surgeon (who is "grey's anatomy" hot, by the way...and ringless...just sayin) and the nephrologist how much I have lost and how much of it was since last August, they were literally speechless for a boy 10 seconds. Then I got "but..how??". The nephrologist said he's never had anyone lose as much weight as I have for surgery so he has no idea of the specifics of how the loss might make a difference in the process. Have to do more tests still to see if I am a good donor candidate, but here's hoping.

I got the same "Wha........!?!?!??" looks when I was I for open heart surgery. Aside from the tumor in my heart, the labs and CT we're gloriously free of disease. They thought I was a long distance runner all my life instead of a guy who eight we months before was seventy pounds heavier.

It's funny. I think they probably see a lot of people who lose less because they do the bare minimum required. They don't quite know what to think of people who just decide to lose it all. They also expect you to tell them how hard it was and how you "managed" to do it. Doctors, of all people, should know it's not that hard if you simply decide to do it, there is no magic bullet, and it's just a numbers game
