Best bang for buck on strength systems

I'm looking to expand my measly dumbbell setup. Currently I have 3, 5 and 8 lb weights. I've been doing some exercises on JM DVDs holding both the 8s and 3s and it's kind of awkward.

Where is my money best spent? Should I get a 10-50 lb adjustable dumbbell set now, then down the road I can get a bar with some plates? Or should I just get a couple dumbbell bars, a bar and some plates now?

Or third option, my FIL has some weight training system in his garage that I don't think he uses. One of those ones you adjust it a bit to do different lifts? (Like a bowflex but with plates). Sorry I don't know the term, or brand it is. My ILs gave us their treadmill for free, so I know I could get a "deal" on this too, but I don't want it if it's not going to be as useful as free weights.

Any advice? WWYD? I'm a 34 yo mom of two toddlers, my goal is body recomp I guess... losing the last bit of fat to have the more toned appearance, but not really looking to lose weight any more. If that makes a difference (because of all the guys posting about wanting to bulk up, with "mom" in their username, just want to be clear, haha)

Beachbody has a FANTASTIC strength training program called Les Pump! I will message you a results picture as I can't attach it to the message. IT IS INCREDIBLE!

Best bang for your buck is not buying something that gets replaced later.

Get a bar now. Get some plates. You can always get more plates as you need them, the bar doesn't ever become useless (get a good bar).

Dvds are great for what they are, but you can also take the time to learn about becoming stronger using more technical lifts, for free, using the interwebs.

Yes, the web would be free. Some people need more of a constructive routine. Merely a suggestion. I believe in the beachbody product very much and love telling people about it! If I could get what I get from my DVDs from the web, I would :) but that's just me.

Er YouTube? Is that different from a dvd?

I'm a qualified and registered fitness professional, personal trainer with certification in advanced resistance training - testing, prescription and coaching.
So obviously I don't believe in beachbody junk. Just my professional opinion.

Have you tried to sell this poor person some shakes, potions or products yet?
I hate people being ripped off by being sold ineffective products, I was a victim myself so I love telling people about it!

Maybe I'm different than people you've dealt with before. And I appreciate your opinion or anyone else's for that matter. I have helped - or at least tried to help - several people and I haven't made a dime. I work part time and have a family. I believe in the program. I believe in the dedication that you have to have in order to meet your goals. It doesn't mean that beachbody is right for everyone but it was for me. I tell whoever I talk to that I don't care how they get the program but just get it. So if they want to grab it at a garage sale, online at amazon, ebay, craigslist ... just wherever ... I just want to help. That's all. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience and perhaps in the future I can pick your professional brain. I am sincere when I say that I'm not doing this for the money. If I was I would be homeless.

You would, most in MLM would and they are victims too.

Why don't you look into becoming a group exercise instructor? They make about £20 a class here.
