Calorie question!

Do you count calories by day or by week? Is there some kind of science behind it, or is It just personal preference?

I count by day, but sometimes if I know I'm gonna have a high calorie day, I'll eat less calories the day before to offset. Weekly calorie intake is more important than your calorie intake on any given day because it's all about your calorie deficit in the long run.

it's an overall average that matters.

I count by day to aim for my goal. If I have a day that is considerably under or over I try to compensate a little the next day. Honestly not sure if I should do that compensation or not. I think it would be difficult to count by week.

Personal preference. Your long-term average is what matters. Choose a time period that seems manageable and count according to that.
