Obese with low heart rate

Options
Hi!
So I'm fat, obese on the BMI scale, and as such I'd expect my heart rate to be at the higher end of the expected, 60-100 average resting heart rate. Using a consumer grade monitor over the last week, mine sits in the 50's (53 as I write this from my office).
My SO seems to think it's a thing and that I should see a doctor. Is this really a thing?

This is not a thing to worry about this is just lucky you. I am this and taking high blood pressure pills and seeing the doctor regularly. 10 years ago I had low heart rate - no high blood pressure and morbidly obese. Only got the high blood pressure once I dropped 120 lbs. Sad to say the weight is back and I am again working on it going the other direction. But the high blood pressure has not gone away with the weight gain eitherl. these 3 things heart rate, blood pressure and weight are not always inter-related, I am hoping to reduce my high blood pressure medication once I reduce the excess weight but I may not ever be off it.

That's a question to ask your doctor. Occasionally a low resting HR in someone who's not physically fit *can* be a sign of a medical problem. That's not something you are we can diagnose - only a doctor can do that with testing. It's not something you need to run to your doctor about, but you *should* get their approval before exercising.

    Do you take any medication?

Have you had your thyroid tested?

I also have a low pulse rate and I'm obese. I plan to have the Gasteric sleeve surgery so my doctor wants me to see a Specialist to make sure it's nothing to worry about. My family hasn't had a history of heart issues so I'm hoping that it's just good genes but if it worries you talk to your doctor.
