Battling Depression: Positive Friday!

For all of you battling depression like myself, today is Positive Friday on a page I follow on Facebook called "Dealing With Depression." Its a hard thing to do, especially when you have a severe case of it! But today; TODAY is Positive Friday and the day is YOURS!

Write down all of the positive things that have happened to you this past week or even just today! A smile/wave from a stranger, something that you did to make yourself feel good, playing with your pet, anything that had made your day even the tiniest bit better! There is ALWAYS something we can find in life that can brighten our day!

Me personally, I've been able to write more of my book and am finally done with chapter two! I've also walked .4 miles today without stopping which is huge for me! I could go on about other things but I'll just end with that because that in itself is amazing.

REMEMBER TO SMILE!

  • Although I am on pills for depression, I am usually positive. People dont believe me when I tell them. I've been on and off pills since I was 19, when i almost had a nervous breakdown and hated it. But my dad said "some people are just more sensitive than others" when I was raging about why other people could cope and I couldn't!

    That helped a lot.

Also a paramedic friend told me "some people dont make enough insulin and they're diabetic, we don't make enough seratonin and are prone to depression"...makes perfect sense to me.

Also, if anyone is having trouble coping, I urge you to seek help. There's no shame in it. And there's no shame in being on anti depressants. Its tough to be strong when you feel you're falling apart but there's nothing at all wrong in asking for help. It could literally save your life.

Sorry, got a bit into my theme then!!

Ok, so blessings for the day...
    I've done my housework
The sun is shining and I'm in my garden
My lovely gorgeous fella is coming over earlier than the expected 11pm
    Its just about wine o'clock

    xx

That's wonderful! I'm so glad you are having a good day :)

I also second that being on anti depressants is nothing to be ashamed of. If you feel you need help seek it out, there is no sense in letting depression take control. Do something to fight back <3
  • What kinda book you writing, to go totally off topic? :D

My Mum has written a few, one is available on amazon the next should be out soon! Hers is fantasy...werewolves, witches, vampires type thing.

I have more good days than bad. Does very much help that I have good friends and family and a marvellous man. And I have gotten rid of some bad people who were in my life :D

I'm not happy to discover my washing machine has just flooded my kitchen tho. Poo.

    xx

I wouldn't be too happy about that either xD But hey, it's certainly going to be clean now after all the water is mopped and dried up so there's that!

I have amazing people to help me too <3

    My book is actually something that came to me in a dream. It's about a group of mythical beings (vampire, neko, angels, mages, werewolves) that are sent on a mission to destroy a monster trying to destroy humankind. Lots of ups and downs throughout the book. I hope to have it done within the next 4-5 years. I'm only on chapter 3 ^__^;;

I totally agree with seeking help if you need it and that being on antidepressants is nothing to be ashamed of. MFP is the first place that I've allowed myself to be totally open about my struggle with depression (diagnosed at 14, total breakdown at 23), and I'm working on being more open about it with those closest to me. But it's still a secret at work... shhh.

Blessings and awesome things this week...

-Being outside running in my neighborhood in the beautiful weather
-Being greeted by other runners & people walking their dogs
-My sister, my best friend & the reason I'm still here to write this post, is coming over for dinner tonight
-I started Les Mills Combat and during & after those workouts is the first time in almost 20 years that I've been able to forget that I'm clinically depressed
-I have a new shampoo that smells like coconut

Thank you for posting this topic!

    - I'm going to the brewery in my old college town with some friends for dinner/drinks later :drinker:
    - Next week is my last week of Insanity and after that I get to start going back to the gym to lift! I miss it. :smooched:
    - I got a raise this week (2.5%...nothing to write home about, but hey.) :ohwell:
    - The weather is going to be really, really nice this weekend :glasses:
    - We're going on a kayak trip down a local river in tomorrow's aforementioned beautiful weather
    - I paid off a massively annoying credit card yesterday
    - Summer is almost here
