Hi, bit of a random one. I'm incredibly over weight and have pretty big boobs. I'm determined to lose a substantial amount of weight, and with this I know my boobs will get smaller. I'm pretty worried that because of the weight of them stretching the skin, once I start to lose the fat underneath they'll end up looking awful and saggy.
I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of exercises I should try to lessen the effects? I'm hoping to get to a gym ASAP and get some advice from a trainer for over all fitness, but finances won't allow it for a couple of months and I have a few light hand weights at home I can start to use in the meantime. Any advice most appreciated

Hi,
I just got a breast reduction yesterday, and I asked my doctor if lifting weights would prevent that. He said that lifting weights will help but also just try not to lose the weight too quickly! For instance, I was going for five pounds a month, now I am only going for 2-3 lost a month. That will prevent too much sagging. Unfortunately, a bit of sagging is inevitable but it won't be horrible and IMO I think it will be more feminine and nice when it's a bit soft...ha.

Unfortunately, there isn't a ton you can do :ohwell: . I feel your pain - 2 babies, almost 4 years of breastfeeding, and some significant weight changes (up and down and back up and on the way back down) have left me with breasts that, bra-less, look like oranges in tube socks and feel like 3-day-old water balloons :sad: .
There's a couple of things you can do, no guarantee it will help but it certainly won't hurt. 1) Don't lose too fast. At the beginning, especially if you have a lot to lose and you're working hard, that's somewhat unavoidable, but keep it to a reasonable 1-2 pounds per week after that (and even less as you get towards your goal). It gives your skin a chance to keep up with the changes inside of it. 2) Make sure to do some strength training. Keeping, and eventually building, muscle to replace the fat you're losing will help keep the skin looking full, though I don't know how much that will help for a lady's chest. 3) Moisturize and stay well hydrated. 4) I've heard taking fish oil can help with skin issues...it won't be a miracle pill but it's certainly not going to hurt your overall health to try it.
Finally - good foundation garments are a woman of ANY size's best friend. Even if you can only afford to buy one or two at a time, go to a good department store and get properly measured and buy a GOOD bra. If you can't help what you look like undressed, you can at least look amazing in your clothes, and that's what most people see you in, right? It's my unscientifically proven opinion that a good bra can triple a woman's confidence, and Oprah's unscientifically proven opinion (which I agree with) is that a good bra will make your waist look smaller, reduce back fat, and overall make you look like you have lost 10-15 pounds.0 -

Go slow, build pectoral muscle.
The size of your breasts will be determined by the amount of breast tissue you have. If you have a lot, you'll have a large chest at the end of your weight loss. If you're breasts are mostly made up of fat at the moment, then you'll have smaller breasts at the end.
My sister in law had large breasts, DD cup though not sure about the band size, when she weighted 265. She is now in an A cup. I wore a 38 G at my heaviest and I'm now down to a 34 DDD. It's genetic. The women in her family are small breasted, the women in my family are mammory heavy (though I "lucked" out and seem to be on the high side of even my family line). Look at your family tree and get a better idea of where you'll be at the end of it.
No matter what, it's better to be healthy with smaller, potentially saggier breasts than unhealthy with big ones.0 -
Just lose slowly and consistently, don't gain and lose and gain and lose a ton of weight, or do something drastic and lose incredibly fast, and your body should help a lot.0
