Are You Kidding Me?

So I go to the gym in the morning in order to avoid wait times for either the machines, the squat rack, or certain sets of dumbbells (small gym). A major turn off was the lack of gym etiquette from gym goers in the afternoon, especially in re-racking weights.
So I'm on one one of the only two squat racks doing my thing, then this guy and I presume his girlfriend take up the second rack. It appears he's trying to play personal trainer with her. From what I heard of their conversation she had never used free weights before, so he was "teaching" her how, as they take turns. I rest after each set, and casually look over, and notice she's struggling and her form is horrible. Looks like he put 30lbs on her bar, without even warming up. Eeesh.
Anyway, backstory out of the way, They move on to the leg press. I've finished and have moved on to the bench press, when suddenly a woman (who's a regular at this 4am block) says, rather loudly "Did you see this motherf---er? He just left all the weights and piled the rest all over the floor!" I just now notice this, and indeed he made a mess of the rack. There was literally a pile of weights on the floor, rather than on the rack holders that are 2 inches away. And the bar is full. Joy. The woman goes on and on about what a d-bag he is, he doesn't know what he's doing, that the girl had way too much weight, etc. The other regulars in the free weights section immediately throw nasty looks at the dude (who's not paying attention) and all agree about the gym etiquette.
By this point I'm annoyed at the dude, but I didn't get pissed off until this happened:
A friend of mine is there as well, and decides to go over and tell the guy to please re-rack his weights and about gym etiquette in general. Let me be clear that my friend is an easy going guy and doesn't approach people with a confrontational or aggressive attitude when stuff like this comes up. I move on to the dumbbells to do more arm work, then I notice my friend go over to the squat rack and proceed to re-rack the weights himself .
So this guy, even after being asked to re-rack his weights, still refuses to (and according to my friend, proceeded to "peacock" himself a bit since his girlfriend was right there) and left another person to clean up his mess.
"Are you kidding me?!" I repeated this out loud. So now whoever this dude is, he's officially been labeled an a--hole by the entire free weights regulars. Congrats dude.
ETA: I literally use the word literally too much, so changed that. Literally.

Over in the UK we call that kinda guy a Bell End!
Deserves a punch in the pancreas for being so stupid.0 -
Just report him. Management will eventually ask him to either clean up or get out.0

Ugh. That poor girl, too. We have a handful of people who can't seem to clean up after themselves either.0

Rhine, I've been lifting for nearly 30 years and I have seen it all. Yes, it is annoying to no end, but it is part of the sad life in the gym. I am sure this guy made your blood boil, but try not to let it. Just do your thing, re-rack the weights, smile, enjoy your session and go home.
If you see something dangerous... that's different. Report it.0 -
i'm more surprised when people follow gym etiquette than when they don't.0

I go to the gym late, and it's not a 24 hr gym so often I'm the last one in there. I usually clean up a bunch of stuff other people have left all over. I don't have to, but they won't always do it in the morning either and then sometimes I can't find weights.
spelling. ugh0 -

This. My gym owner checked the surveillance camera, picked the guy out and wrote his name on pieces of paper. He put the guys name and wrote "re-rack your damn weights" and posted them all over the gym walls. It was hilarious.
I love this!0 -

It's kind of sad, but I feel this way too.0
