I've been re-building my running after a hiatus of about 4 months. I stopped after my marathon last September, and did Insanity while it was cold, started again the first of March.

Since I'm coupling my runs with the Insanity Asylum programs, I tend to not go very far in my running as to not over-do it, but today I decided to do 7 (ended up being 6.9) miles. 8 has been my longest of the year so far.

I wanted a slower pace, there were TONS of large hills in the first 3.3 miles of my route, as well as pesky lights, as it was in the city. Once I got past that part.....holy crap things were awesome!

With the large hills, I ended up with the following splits the first 4 miles:

9:33, 9:03, 9:18, 9:15. For me, this was outstanding, it's not fast in comparison to a lot of people, but I was very happy with it running the hills....it was actually about 1-1:30 faster than I wanted....but about mile 3 I figured, what the hell, lets try for a 10k under an hour, my fastest this year was 1:03 at that point, and my PR 10k was 56:52, that happened in September of 2012!

Then something magical happened, and the next 2.9 miles were amazing. Splits of 8:50, and 8:37, with the final .9 done in 8:06.

When it was all said and done, I PR'd my 10k distance from 2 years ago!! 56:16. NOT ONLY THAT.....on the backside of this 6.9 mile run I ran my fastest 5k of the year at 27:26!

So....my fastest 10k of THIS year, was 1:03.....I just did 6.9 in 1:02.....0.0

This was coming off yesterday's 1.5. mile run at a 7:45 pace just to see if I could break 8 minutes per mile.....talk about a runners high these past couple of days!!!

People have asked me if Insanity has helped my running.....with this run I have to say unequivocally.....YES. When Shaun T says things like, "if you wanna get faster, you need this" he means it. When he says things like "The work doesn't start until you get tired" it puts you mentally in the game to push yourself when you think you need that break.

Thanks for reading, it's been a hell of a couple days of running!!
