help with hypothyroidism?

Hi there, I'm a 22 year old who was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about an year and a half ago. I'm looking to lose some of the weight gain that stems from that. Which exercises/diets would be best?
I didn't gain any weight until I went on medication, which is kind of the opposite of what was expected, but since then I've gone from 5'4 and 110 lbs to almost 140 lbs. I've always been a healthy eater but I've become much stricter about diet and started exercising every day. I'm looking much more toned but I haven't lost any weight, and suggestions?
I generally try to get a lot of cardio in with a bit of strength training and yoga. Btw, I'm a vegetarian and try to eat all gluten free.

MFP has a hypothyroid group you might want to join--look under the "Groups."

I think people have really individual results with diet. There's research out there that says hypos should avoid soy, but I do very well on soy. I try to get a lot of protein, because that also works well for me.

I'd make sure you weighing your food and measuring your liquids for ultimate accuracy. And be careful of over-estimating calorie burn from exercise. Many people over-estimate their effort (vigorous vs. moderate) and the cardio machines are notoriously high. I use a HRM and the cardio machines are usually 20-30% higher than the calories burned on my HRM.

Hang in there, it'll come off! :)

I have never heard of anyone going on medication for hypo, and actually gaining weight.
I am thinking it is not the medication that has caused you to gain weight.
I am hypo, and the little weight I had gained prior to diagnosis, soon came off.

Have they done blood work to see if the amount of Levothyroxine they're giving you is working? It often takes a long time to find the right dose. I started on 50 mcg, then went up to 75, then to 88 then finally at 100 right now and still have to get my blood work checked regularly to make sure it's always working for me. It's a trial and error process. If you're still gaining, you should really call your doctor and get your blood tested again.

You sound like me. I am 22 years old and I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago. I'm 5"5 and I was always around 140-150 pounds. In no time at all, I was at 190 pounds. I lost a bit of it, but I am still sitting at 169. I would like to lose another 30 pounds. I'm here if you need a friend!
