Need some advice please about treadmills

Hi
Yesterday I searched all day for a good manual treadmill capable of running on. I don't want to make the wrong decision and would like your input please. We have a small house and no usable basement, so we need one that folds up. We had a manual before years ago and the belt kept shifting to one side and that's the only reason I disliked it. We also want one that inclines and that we can run on. Does anyone have a good manual treadmill and if so what brand is it? thanks

Hi, Not sure if you've bought your TM already, but i have the 'Staminia In Motion' one from Amazon, so far the belt inst slipping. I wasnt using it regularly untill i bought my HRM and boy does it get the Hrate soaring......almost better than a CT, however i dont run on it, you would have to hang on;-)

The best treadmill is the one outside your doorstep that goes down the road and what is called Pavement Street.

The electrical versions are a waste of time.

I am a road runner and absolutely loathe treadmills because I find them so boring, so to some extent I agree with this, but it's not a very useful comment! There are many reasons why someone may choose to use a treadmill over the pavement and they are certainly not a waste of time or money if you are going to get use out of them.

ETA: Sorry I can't help on the treadmill advice...I just hate it when people get all hoity toity.

Bit of a lack of understanding here I fear

Single mother, 6 month old baby asleep in the cot. Treadmill in the next room or is the pavement still best?

Young girl studying with part time job whose only time to run is late evening. Treadmil in the safe environment of a locked apartment, or running alone at night?

Aging guy like myself who suffers from a foot injury. Treadmill with built in cushioning and constant environment, or hard concrete and uneven surfaces?

Working mother in Florida who can only run in her lunch break. Treadmill in air conditioned room, or outside in the 35 degree midday sun?

I guess you must have misread the OPs question. She asked for advice on which treadmill to buy, and you misread this as "Does eldamiano prefer a treadmill or running outside?"

Thank you for the lecture. I got bored though until you mentioned my name at the end. But sorry for the lack of understanding given the complete lack of suggestion that this lady fits into one of your niche categories. Perhaps next time I will spend my lunch hour thinking about all of the possibilities instead of running in my air conditioned room....

    Pavement street closed is it?

I hope the OP appreciates your input. Good that you chose to enter the thread to offer your advice - I'm sure she has never thought about running outside; that must surely open up a whole new range of options to her. I wonder if that's the case for all the millions and millions that are interested in treadmills??? I must mention it to the 30 or so people who are on the treadmills at my gym whenever I go - I guess they must also fit into one of the 'niche categories' too. Unless they too have never thought about running on 'Pavement street'

I think you should spread the word, enlighten more of us

Sorry, I can't help as I couldn't find one I wanted, so I went with a "regular"(?) treadmill. It takes up a large space in my tiny living room, so I feel you when you say you'd like one that folds up. I've gotten used to walking around it now, so it's all good.

As far as pavement street, I do that, too....with my high energy lab. Unfortunately, where I'm from the weather is not always conducive to putting in much time on the street. No one likes to have their skin freeze within minutes of exposure. A treadmill gives me options.

Oh yes, the overrated exaggeration. I have never heard of anybody's skin freeze, especially given that running warms people up. How on earth would they manage to leave the house to do simple day to day tasks? Warm up on a treadmill first I suppose?....

Yes, you are right. Millions of treadmills do exist, and predominantly not for the reasons which you mention, and so defeats the point of your argument. A lot of people think that treadmills are a great way of exercising and losing weight. They are no way as effective as running in the street, contrary to people's beliefs about having an expensive lumpy bit of permanent kit which looks good.

What you so ignorantly dismiss. A lot of people dont think about it....I have read about it on these forums included

You're right, I don't believe that anyone thinking of running on a treadmill has never even considered running outside

Then obviously you've never spent a winter in the north
