Need help!

Hey! I need help with this question, so I'm 18 male 147 lbs 5 ft 8 and my BMR is 1723, I take it that means that's how much calories I would burn lying in a coma or something? Today I feel sick so I've been lying in bed all day and I read that lying in bed can burn around 70 calories per hour, is that adding on to my BMR? So let's say I was lying in bed for 12 hours, would that add on to my BMR and be 2563?

    lol, No.

Your BMR is your BMR. That is what your body would burn at rest doing NOTHING at all but having the organs function.

Have you configured your TDEE? Total Daily Energy Expenditure from day to day is probably the number you're looking for....and I don't think that it would be that high, especially when laying in bed. It's based on your general daily activity plus exercise. On your more inactive days, it would be beneficial to eat a little less.

How often do you workout? How long? What do you do during them? What do you do for a living? Weight, height, age and BF%?

I'm 18 5 ft 8 male 147 lbs, I don't know what my BF% is, I go to college 3 times a week, so do about 40 minutes of walking at college and also play football for about 30 minutes a day 4 days a week

I would venture to say that you are Moderately Active. If anyone sees this, feel free to correct me.

If you're Moderately Active, your maintenance calories are roughly 2672. Subtract 10% from that and you get 2148 calories a day. Why only 10%? Because it doesn't seem like you need to lose weight if you're 147 pounds....but if that's your goal, I'd go 10% and not 20%. If you're trying to bulk, that's completely different territory that I don't even understand, truth be told. I think a bunch of folks are on the "eating at a surplus" team, but there's hot debate on it.

What *are* your goals? I didn't bother to ask, lol.

I just need to lose a few more pounds, I still have belly fat and fat in my face that I want to burn off, so if I burn 2148 on a day doing those exercises, what about a day that I'm resting? Like just sitting around the house

You can eat your TDEE calories or under and be fine, but I would never eat just your BMR calories or below.

In that case, I would only go 5%. It would be slow loss, but that's exactly what you need. So if maintenance is 2672, take 5% off and you have roughly 2500 calories to play with. On less active days, I usually shave off 2-300 calories, but that isn't typical and it's user preference. If I'm hungry even on rest days, I'll eat!

ALSO keep in mind that while doing the TDEE method, you are not eating back exercise calories. It is accounted for in your daily calorie allotment.

If you are using the TDEE method (exercise already factored into the number) you eat the same amount of calories each day.

If you are using the MFP method, you will be eating back a portion of your exercise calories on the days you exercise.

You cannot spot reduce, the body decides that.

2500 to eat?? Jeez.. Now I know why I've lost a lot of weight since November, I used eat around 2500-3000 calories a day last year and a 1 litre bottle of soda a day. Now, I've been eating 1500-1800 calories per day and drinking 1 litre of soda once a week.

Sounds like you've been under eating, especially if your BMR is in the 1700s!

Damn, I better start eating more.. So today I am lying in bed I'll and haven't moved a lot at all today, so should I eat around 1700 calories today as that's the same as my BMR?

But if I'm not getting any exercise today wouldn't eating 2500 calories make me gain 800 calories?

    OP:
You said your goal is to lose a few more pounds and you are concerned about belly fat etc. Since you are close to your goal weight, you have to realize the pounds are not going to fall off of you. It will be a slow process. Again:

If you are using the TDEE method (exercise already factored into the number) you eat the same amount of calories each day.

If you are using the MFP method, you will be eating back a portion of your exercise calories on the days you exercise.

You have to understand that the numbers that are given through online calculators are going to be estimates. There is no way to get an exact number. It may be a good idea to look into body recomposition and there are places in the forum to ask those types of questions. Do not complicate this.

No, it's your maintenance or close to it. If you eat at maintenance, you don't gain weight you stay the same, so you'd basically get to eat plenty and not lose/gain calories..

Ok sorry, but what I'm wondering is if I'm not exercising at all today how can my maintenance be 2500? Shouldn't it be like 2000 as I'm not burning any calories today

The calories account for your activity level as a whole. Even when you're less active.

Oh ok, I'm starting to understand lol, so even if I'm active the four days a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and no exercises on the rest of the week I still lose the same amount?

    Correct.

EDIT: But keep in mind with so little to lose, it will take time. Loss might not always be linear. Loss will be very slow.

Ok thanks I appreciate the help, I've only ate 1500 calories so far today and it's 9.30 PM so I should probably go have an Easter egg lol, and I know it's gonna be slow now but I'm hoping to look better for when I go on holiday in July :)
