TEE, BMR, Myfitness Calories?

According to myfitnesspal I should be consuming 1300 calories. According to this:

I should be consuming 2100 for TEE (loss of 1lb/month).

How on Earth do any of you decide what you should be doing? Weight loss shouldn't be so hard. Eat good. Move a lot. Right?

    MFP does not include your exercise calories which you need to eat back.

    the whole thing confuses me as it over estimates the cals burnt on exercise too

    remember to deduct 20% from your TDEE, i chose my TDEE method find it easier, it should work out the same any way for me MFP gave me 1440 + exercise calories 300 (example) = 1740, i would work out all your work out calories on average a week add that to your MFP cals then the TDEE -20% should work out the same maybe 100-200 cal difference. just chose one and stick to it is best advise i can give don’t worry about eating more your not really its just the same method just set out in a different way.

    Calorie deficit=weight loss

    MFP method: eat a portion of exercise calories back because it is not included in the number. (eat only a portion to account for overestimation)
    TDEE method: eat the same amount of calories each day (exercise calories include in the number)

    Hi, read through these, they should help you get started. The basics ARE very simple - for weight loss only, it's eat less. For health too, eat better and exercise. But yes you need to understand a couple of things about how MFP and other calculators work to know where your calorie goal should be approximately. These links will help you figure that out:

    What did you choose for weight loss goal on MFP?

    MFP also expects you to log your exercise and eat those calories back so some days you will be eating more than 1300.

    I've done both ways and they both basically came out to the same average over the week. it comes down to choosing the correct setting and logging correctly.

    How often do you exercise and for how long?

    I have been trying to exercise 5 days a week for 60 min. I have three young children so when school lets out for the summer I am concerned my workouts will get missed. ( they whine so much when I suggest a bike ride!)

    So MFP suggests 1300 calories, and I log about 300 exercise calories between yoga and elliptical. So I should aim about 1450 calories? I really need to get a Fitbit or something...

    If you log 300 calories of exercise and following MFP, you should be eating 1600 calories on those days.

    What did you choose for a weight loss goal on MFP? What did you choose for an activity level when setting up MFP?
    When figuring TDEE what did you choose for an activity level?

    You don't "need" a Fitbit. They are handy, and can be useful, but they aren't necessary. All of those gadgets have limitations and aren't totally accurate.
