Protein questions

1) What is your protein goal for a day?

2) How much protein do you typically get each day?

3) What foods/supplements are your biggest sources of protein? If supplement, please provide name, average price, and product size (2lb, 5lb, etc.).

The reason I'm asking is because I've noticed I've been VERY low (way below goal) consistently for awhile. I've been eating a lot of fish, chicken, eggs, greek yogurt (Fage and Chobani) and still am very low. I do have an appointment later this week with a professional to discuss the best protein powder for my price range so hopefully that will help too. Any input and advice is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest going into a health food store or a supplement store and talking to someone there. I did I knew I wanted a low cal low carb high protein and she put me on a whey isolate and it works great for me the one I am using now is called (isoNatural 2lbs cost 50$ before taxes)

    1.) 99g

2.) I probably average just about 100g. Low for the past two weeks was 85 (only time I got under 100) and high was 119

3.) I'm not a big meat-eater, so I heavily rely on dairy to get me up where I need to be. No salt added cottage cheese, greek yogurt, string cheese, (low sodium) turkey breast, almonds and eggs/egg whites. Whole grain/wheat breads usually help me with it as well. I do use Designer Whey protein (both the vanilla and strawberry) to help me on days where I run more than 6 miles. I don't love it, but I bought it so I'm using it up. I got both via Amazon but they are available pretty much anywhere. Price greatly varies depending on flavour and size though!

I looked at your food diary and I'm not really sure you need to get as much protein as you're trying to. You might want to consider adjusting your %s if that's an option.

ON 100% Whey is about the best protein out there in my opinion. Tastes great and mixes really well.

Super Advanced Whey Protein tastes terrible. Protein Ultimate doesn't taste bad, but it is about the worst mixing protein I have ever encountered. Shake it and it clumps...use a blender and it all turns to air bubbles and you'll be burping it for the rest of the day.

I actually have not been very good at recording my daily protein...but I do try to keep an eye on getting quite a bit. I dont eat meat at all, so my protein comes from dairy (i LOVE trader Joes organic fat free greek yogurt) Think Thin bars, eggs, nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc) and a variety of beans incorporated into soups and salads. I supplement with Boku NON dairy protein powder, and also like Aria powder from Trader Joes which is a mix of soy and whey sources.
  • I use GNC Total Lean Protein Harvest Berry or Berry Fusion. It is 1lb for $20 and is usually buy 1 get one half off at GNC. It tastes awesome and mixes well!

Even using this I don't meet my protein goal every day either and I eat tuna, chicken, almonds, string cheese, etc.
