Rundouble C25k

Does anyone know if you can use this app on a treadmill? Running on concrete kills my knees so I use my treadmill a lot and I'm just curious. It doesn't say in it's description. I want some type of running app that will train me to run a half marathon (at least). If I'm correct C25k only goes up to 5k or 10k. I'm beyond that so I need something to push me.

Thanks for the help. Suggestions for other apps would be great too if no one know any info on this on. I would like it to connect with MFP and train me. I already have apps that just calculate my run.

Yes, just use the timed program, not the distance one.

It offers timed or distance options, so you can just select the timed option. It won't be able to give you pace, speed, and distance info, but you can get that from the treadmill.

I'm not sure what you mean by on the treadmill. You can do any of these programs on the treadmill but bear in mind that treadmill running doesn't always translate to running on the road. People who get used to the treadmill often find the road much harder.

    C25k goes up to 5k
Then there is a Bridge to 10k program that you can follow.
There are also tons of beginner marathon programs that you can follow, some include a walk/run format, others are for straight running.

I also don't know what you mean by connect to MFP and train you. Some programs will connect with MFP to upload your workout for the calorie portion and to log it, but none that I know of give you the training program through MFP.

Again - I strongly recommend doing at least some of your running outside if you plan to do a race outside.

Because I have joined a Y lead 5 k training pgrm the couch to 5 k didn't work (the internals are a bit different) but I've downloaded an app (seconds) for interval training. It provides for a warm-up, low intensity intervals, high intensity intervals and cool down and lets you listen to music while you do it. I think it's a great option. The free version is very useful, the paid version allows you to save the timers you set up, I might purchase as I'm finding it useful.

I have the Rundouble C25K app and I used it at first on the treadmill because it was too cold to start training outside. I bought the full app and there is a half-marathon event training program. I don't know anything about it though.

Oh my, running a half marathon on a treadmill - one way ticket to Boresville IMO!!

If road running hurts your knees but treadmill running doesn't, maybe try some new shoes? It could be that you just don't have the correct cushioning your feet need. Talk to someone at a specialist running store who can do a gait analysis.
  • RunDouble does work with a treadmill and elliptical trainer, so long as you are using one of the 'timed' runs. Obviously, it will not track your distance, pace, or a map of your run, however, it will still play music and give you prompts to change pace.

You may like to turn of GPS in the options menu - this will also turn off pace and distance announcements.

You will need to choose a pace which correlates to walking, and to a slow jog. You may find that you need to fine-tune your pace as you progress through the program. You should not be out of breath, and be able to complete all of the intervals without stopping.

At the end of your run, you can manually edit the distance, to record the distance you ran on the treadmill. From the stats screen just tap the "..." menu in the top right hand corner of the screen (on some phones it's the physical menu button on the phone instead), and choose "Edit distance". On older phones (Gingerbread and earlier) there is an "Edit" button near to the top of the page.

Why not just look up a 10k or half marathon training plan online and follow that? They tend to specify mileage for each workout which you can measure when running on your treadmill or when running outside, using a GPS app.

If you want to do a half marathon surely it makes sense to get used to running on the surfaces that you will be running on. Get some good shoes take your time and your body will get used to running on harder surfaces
