Night Time Snacking

Lately, I have been seriously overindulging at night time (usually PB carrots/celery or air popped popcorn). It has become a habit for me. I know those two options are not the worst thing...but it is a problem when I eat way more than the portion size. I was doing so well with maintaining my goal, but I have found some pounds creeping back. I think my overeating at night could be the issue.
Any advice on how to break the habit? If you snack at night, what do you typically have? Thanks!

I have the same problem, but it's often things like a protein/granola bar, cookies or fake ice cream (I can't have dairy). I know it's holding me back and slowing my progress, but I keep doing it so don't have any advice. I'm hoping to get some here too!0

1) increase fiber and protein intake at dinner time (or last meal of the day)
2) if you get late night munchies...choose fresh fruit.
3) only eat in the kitchen or dining area and limit distractions while eating. concentrate ONLY on the food you're eating and ENJOY it.
4) chew your food until it almost dissolves.
5) sip a cold beverage in between EVERY bite you take. EVERY SINGLE BITE.
6) sometimes your mind will confuse thirst with hunger...stay hydrated ALL DAY.
7) only eat if your tummy growls!!! if you think you're hungry, sip something cold and see if your "hunger pangs" subside.

I just plan it out. I eat most of my calories at night. It's just how I like to spread my calories. I eat as much as 1200 calories at night for my snack. Ice cream is my usual go to. Popcorn, hummus and wheat thins, pickles, clementine oranges0

Great advice...sometimes, though, I enjoy snacking and zoning to some mindless tv. Put the portion in a bowl and close up the box and put it on a high shelf. Log it and complete your diary. If I do this, it helps me not go back for more.0 -

Absolutely! Only take out what you intend to eat, log it, put the rest away and close out your diary! GREAT ADVICE :drinker:0 -
I do enjoy me some night time eats. Typically something hot and saucy.0

I knit to keep my hands busy. Usually when I am snacking at night it is NOT because I am hungry. If you are truly hungry then eat.0

As I said in the other post you made it's not the night time snacking it's your inconsistent logging and poor choices for entries.
You miss whole days, don't log completely and choose entries that aren't correct such as your 5oz of chicken being under as well as your entry for almonds..0 -
Wow your snacks are so healthy compared to mine! And the only thing that works for me (not just at night) is drinking lots of tea One after another, you don't even feel the hunger. Good luck!0

This is some of the best advice I've seen on this topic. I have the exact same problem with night time snacking. I'm tired, I care less, hide it from the wife, then forget to log it. Its a vicious cycle!

Gaining weight on air popped popcorn?! Something tells me your metabolism is whack/you're way below your weight set point if eating an extra snack at night and going above 1,200 calories is making you gain weight...
EDIT: after reading further into your diary, your snacking is definitely reactive. You're only eating 800, 900 calories some days! Keep in mind the typical unrestrictive eater will eat around 2,500 calories a day.... Your deficits are too severe and you're not meeting the basic 1,200 your body needs to perform it's basic processes.0
