Hi,
I'm reasonably new to MFP but I am wanting to lose 2 stone. My first weight loss before I joined MFP was 13st 2lbs...that was about 3 weeks ago...a couple of days ago i weighed myself and i weighed 12st 6lb...so a good 10lb weight loss just by following calories and daily exercise
I weighed myself this morning and I had gained 3lbs... taking me up to 12st 9lb but i haven't changed my diet atall and I am doing frequent exercise.
Does anyone have any ideas of where I may be going wrong? or what it could possibly be or the best thing to do to get my 2 stone weight loss?
Thank you in advance!

Weight fluctuates, a bit up or down is normal. 10 lbs in a couple of weeks is not realistic, so it was extreme to begin with and expected to gain some back and slow down. Set a goal of 1lb per week or less and you will make it.0

A weight gain or loss over 3 days is just a normal fluctuation. It could be many things: hormones due to menstrual cycle, water retained due to exercise or salt intake, increased muscle mass, or increased body fat. This is why it's better to not agonize over the scale...it's often pointless. Weight fluctuates. Period. Look for the overall trend, not the daily numbers.
Also, it's far more important that you look at your measurements and how you fit in your clothes than the number on the scale.0 -
Also, if you have increased your exercise you will be increasing muscle as well as losing fat and muscle is heavier than fat. Dont be disheartened you can do it!0

Thank you guys.
I was so lazy and ate over 3,000 calories of unnecessary food before losing weight...so i am assuming as soon as i vamped up the exercise and controlled my food... the lbs fell off.
Thank you for for feedback...I'll keep going!0 -
I wouldn't worry about it. It's extremely unlikely that you've gained weight on that many calories unless you're not logging your food accurately and are consuming more than you realize.
Just keep doing what you're doing and wait another week or so to weigh again.. it'll likely go down. There are so many variables that cause weight to fluctuate; a day or two of consuming extra sodium, or because exercise causes the muscles to store water for the repair process, etc.
Perfect example- last week I worked my butt off in the gym and hit my calorie goal every single day, but my weight appeared to increase 3 pounds by the end of the week! After a two rest days from the gym, I dropped that 3 lb "gain", plus an additional couple pounds. Weight loss isn't linear. It has constant fluctuations. It's normal.
Be patient. :bigsmile:0 -

You cannot gain muscle on a caloric deficit, especially at 1290 calories. You need caloric surplus to gain muscle. I agree though that she shouldn't be discouraged and keep working at it. The results will come.0 -
Hello, it could be possible that you are eating more than you think. Do you weigh/measure everything you eat? Check out this thread and hopefully it'll help you achieve your goals. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1175494-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants
On the other hand, since you are exercising it could simply be some water retention, as others have mentioned weight loss isn't linear. Good luck on your journey!0 -
