What sort of help are you looking for?

The weight gain could be a number of things including water from the new exercise.

I did however look at your diary and you are burning significant amounts...you need to know mfp over estimates calories...only eat 1/2 of them back esp on the days it says you are burning 2000.

Buy a food scale and weigh your solids....and ensure your entries are correct.

Well my initial things is your likely to be eating far more than you think. Your diary has many entries that aren't weighed. I'm assuming that the homemade corn beef sandwich is off the data base and not your own recipe? How do you know how much bread they used how much beef? it's likely to be different than yours. 250 for that would only cover 2 normal slices of bread. The same with the veg soup is that your recipe? Use the recipe builder and enter your own things. Make sure your using accurate database entries. Weigh everything cups are not an accurate measurement of solids. Once you have your logging accurate then you have a baseline to work from

    Good luck

From looking at your diary, it looks like you really need to work on your accuracy. Just a few examples:

You log 2 slices on bread at 226 on some days, but then a corned beef sandwich for 250 calories...
2 cups of veg soup for 126 calories
Shredded wheat with skim milk for 109 calories

Those are just a few. Stay away from generic or recipes put in by other MFP members, as you don't know what they used in their calculations.

  • I've just looked at your diary too...today you've had 1g of flora - how is that even possible!? If you genuinely had 1g, there would literally be no point in having it! Be honest with your measurements, weigh everything!

Yup agreed, you seem to be underestimating calories. According to the Nestle website 1 piece of Shredded Wheat on its own is 111 calories, whereas you have logged 1 Shredded Wheat plus semi skimmed milk at only 109 cals. The milk adds quite a lot!

1g of butter is not even enough to cover the tip of your knife. To weigh butter accurately put the tub on your scales and then zero them, scrape out the butter you want and watch the number on the scales. It's surprising how much these little things add up!

I also assume you're in the UK as you have logged a lot foods from shops like Asda and Iceland, yet sometimes you are entering things in cup measurements. We don't use cups in the UK so this tells me you're not logging correctly. Actually, even most Americans will tell you that measuring in cups (or tablespoons or teaspoons) is not a very accurate way to measure since it depends how packed or heaped your cup/spoon is. Weigh everything in grams - let the digital scale be your friend!

ETA: Also, how are you recording your calorie burns from exercise? They seem very high to me, but then again it depends what you are doing. The only way to make sure your calorie burns are as accurate as possible is to use a heart rate monitor. Also, only log calories burned through actual exercise, i.e. activity that is not part of your daily routine.

was ment to be 10 g not 1g

i will do my own measuring from now on if database is wrong

Yes, unfortunately the user generated entries in the database can be off by quite a lot because people aren't always honest about their portion sizes. Another problem is that people who add foods to the database tend to only log the calories, not any of the other macros. Ot's annoying!! To be more accurate, you can use the app and scan in the barcodes of your foods, or just use the entries in the d/b that don't have a star by them (the star denotes it is a user-generated entry).

No don't be silly! Sorry if we sounded negative but it's important you know these things. And now you know, you can find ways to improve your accuracy and see even better results in your weight loss. You've still managed to lose 5lbs overall so you have been doing well, now you can do even better!

In processed foods, yes - it's used as a preservative and flavour enhancer and it is EVERYWHERE! Too much sodium (aka salt) can cause you to retain water, and it's also not great for your blood pressure so it's always better to cook food from scratch so you know exactly what goes in it!

There's nothing wrong with that, but if you do use a lot and find that you are going over on your salt levels, you could try the reduced salt stock cubes - I think Knorr does them, or Kallo. Or, and I know it's a bit of a faff, you could make your own stock!

Don't be daft, we all start somewhere - it's good to make mistakes otherwise people would never learn!

Tomorrow is a new day :)

Oh I have a solution - try a bit of lemon juice instead of salt, really enhances the flavour of vegetables and no sodium :)

I use half a stock cube if I need a bit of depth to the flavour too, try that you'll be surprised how far they go.

Don't feel upset by it, how do we learn if we don't make mistakes. Great thing is you already have the basics, you just need to correct a few minor things and go from there.

When I started I made lots and lots of mistakes, luckily I was helped and learned that you can lose weight, while eating everything I love, just takes a little planning.

I wouldn't get too down about it. This happens to all of us a some point.

What you've learned here today will only make you more successful in your weight loss journey if you use the information correctly.

This entire challenge is a learning process. I am down 22 lbs and I still learn something new every day that I come to these forums.
