so i bought a HRM yesterday with a calorie counter on it, and it said that i burned 1244 calories this morning, doing 43 min of strength, 7 min elliptical, 10 running, and 2 min jump rope. hopefully this this is accurate. thats a lot of calories burned in an hour, i know that i was working hard and pushing myself, but im kinda worried that this might be wrong. any one have suggestions??

Heart rate monitors normally don't accurately measure calories burned during strength training routines, so if it is off, then it is probably going to be there.
On the other hand, there are exercises out there that can potentially burn that many calories in one hour, such as the Insanity Max cardio routines or Turbo Fire.
Try monitoring just cardio and see if you get a huge discrepancy.0 -
You have to enter your age, your height, and your weight. Make sure that the chest strap is just below your boobs and that you have good contact.
I've gotten crazy readings and sure enough, the next day, I come down with a cold.
Use it for a few days and look for some sort of consistency.
What brand did you get? Polar is good.... but make sure the age, weight, height are in there.0 -

i bought i timex one, its good, i entered my hieght and weight, when i was doing the strength training, i was taking minimal rest and i was keeping my heart rate up, the lowest it got was around 120 to 125, so it stayed up there.0 -
Of course, it'll depend on your height/age/weight/effort, but judging by the exercises you did, I would guess it's pretty close. Did your HRM have you put in your info (height/age/weight)? The other day I did about 85 minutes of various exercises with my HRM and burned about 1050 calories, some of those exercises were heavy effort, others were light or moderate effort. Bottom line is it will depent on those factors, height/age/weight/effort.....but I would say if your HRM has your info then it should be pretty accurate...enjoy!0

Sorry to say, but your actual burn was probably about 1/2 that total. The timex models aren't that accurate, in my experience.0

I've run a few marathons, did a couple wearing an HRM, and I burned between 2700 and 2900 calories. Took me more than four hours to do that.
If you're in a gym and burning 1000+ calories after an hour and fifteen minutes, I'm bagging the marathon scene and doing what you do.0 -
What's important to remember is that it depends on each individual and the amount of effort they put in. Those who weigh more, or are older will have to put in more effort which will raise their HR more than someone who is smaller or younger. Just because I burned that many doing 85 minutes doesn't mean everyone else will. What I did wasn't in a gym....but feel free to join in!! Regardless, I hope you were able to find the support you were looking for pizzy.0
