Start measuring your caloric intake. Use a food scale. If you don't know how much is going into your body, you will have trouble losing weight.

Work out. Be as active as possible. But, beware that online calorie counters (including MFP) overestimate calories burned. Only enter about 50-75% of the calories that they say you burned.

Losing weight is a game of math. Calories in less than calories out = losing weight.

Fitness is about being active. If you're like me, you want to do more than just lose weight. So, I try to vary my workouts to include cardio, strength training and stretching. Look around the Internet for different types of workouts you can do at home. The more different ways you can work out, the fewer excuses you have for avoiding working out.

Just start slow, and build. This is not an overnight process. Two years ago, I was near 200 pounds. I'm now under 150. It took time, and the work really started paying off when I carefully measured all of my food and took every opportunity to exercise.

It's all about trading out bad habits for good habits.

    Good luck!

This is my first post on these message boards. I have been sitting in a rut for the past few months, not really making a solid effort to lose weight. But I feel really prepared to get back on track. I'm going to try and start cutting out some foods and eating a cleaner lifestyle. I gave up pop for Lent and at first it was really hard but it has gotten easier each week so I don't think I will even tempt myself and go back to it.
Welcome to everyone and thanks for welcoming me into the group!
