Needing Some Motivation

I have had a long day of EKG classes and made a couple of bad choices for lunch and now am left with only 400 calories for the rest of the day and I am hungry... you might even say hangry...watch out! lol I could go work out but am cramping and bloated because it's TOM and I am just feeling SO lazy. I know I need to just do it, but I swear it is hard to work up the motivation to go some days! Anyone have good ideas on where to draw motivation from?

One thing I've learned from my journey is that motivation can be highly overrated. haha :D Or at least highly misunderstood. I think we look for this "bolt of lightning"-type feeling to strike us - this "Yeah! I'm gonna do this! I want to do this!" kind of feeling.... and yet...some days (like today, for you), that feeling never comes. And then we give up, thinking "well I'm just not motivated so forget it".

Some days we literally just do not have it within ourselves to make ourselves go. Especially when we're starting out on new exercise habits.

So instead of waiting for that internal feeling, it is better to get accountability, encouragement, and cheers from others outside ourselves. Find a person or persons you can either text, call, walk up to and talk to, contact on Facebook, contact on here, etc. and reach out to them. Tell them, "hey, I really want to go to the gym but I am SO unmotivated right now. Tell me to go!" And I guarantee those people will suddenly turn into your biggest cheerleaders and personal trainers! They'll say things like, "get your buns in there, little lady! You can do it! You go girl! You'll feel so much better afterward! Don't lose hope, don't lose track!" and other things that will help you see what you cannot see for yourself.

Over time, as you exercise and eat well consistently, you'll find that your "motivation muscles" will strengthen and most of the time you'll be able to encourage yourself to take care of yourself. And then just occasionally you'll need help, support, and accountability. Your friends can help you build those muscles. Utilize them! :)

Hate to sound like Nike, but girl, just do it. There are plenty of times after a long day at work I just want to go home, put on some sweats and veg out on the couch, but I force myself to workout. In the beginning its tough, but by the time I'm finished I feel great. As for TOM, working out actually helps symptoms, at least for me. I've never let TOM interfer with my workouts and I used to run marathons and triathlons. Start out with something light and let yourself build up momentum.

For me, at least, motivation isn't always excitement and smiles. Sometimes it means trudging and dragging your feet. The point isn't to always be upbeat, it's to always keep moving.

Make a huge omelette stuffed with veggies and cheese. Once the hangry is gone, then do some kind of workout, even if it is just a brisk walk. You will feel better.

The number one thing I always try to remember: You don't have to go fast, you just have to go.

Just get up. You deserve to be the best you can be.

Today, you can either be lazy/tired/cramped/bloated/etc or you can be AWESOME. You choose.

When it's that time for me, I can't make myself move. I know I should, but I don't (at least not the first 2 days when everything is horrible!). And it hasn't ruined my life OR my progress. And I totally second the have an omelette suggestion; an egg-white omelette of large size can be stuffed with tons of veggies and a little cheese for under 350 calories.
