Compulsive eating

So I am a compulsive eater. I would find myself eating foods that I didn't hate but didnt particularly like just because they were around me. Counting calories has helped a lot with that.

I'm not particularly fond of cookies with very few exceptions, yet i would find myself eating them anyway. One look at how many calories they would take and that was it after i started counting. Its more like why eat 200 calories of cookies, when i could eat something i really enjoy. Even if that alternative is equally unhealthy like a glazed donut, I am much happier.

Another great example are the Little Debbie Snacks (or similar products), I've never really been a fan of most of them (except the powdered donuts). They always sounded really good but were always unsatisfying afterwards. Well, I was at a convenience store the other day and looked at several of them. 300-700 calories apiece? No thank you. I'll have a meal instead.

Really I think I prefer bitter foods to sweet ones but since sweets were always readily available, i ate them because i could. I'd rather spend my budget on something I enjoy than something i ate just because i could.

On a side note, the compulsion is still a work in progress. i work demoing food, so on work days I can burn a lot of calories sampling mine and my coworkers products. :(

I used to be a compulsive eater. I find being on MFP makes me accountable and since I calorie count I don't want to waste my calories on eating any old thing. I'd rather have something that's good for me. :-)
