Asthma and Exercise

I've been doing little things here and there but my asthma is terrible and I can't go for long lengths without wheezing. Is there some way to remedy this without medication? I don't have insurance yet so I haven't had medication since i was diagnosed when I was 6.

It's not obesity related either. I was born quite basically without lungs and lived in a bubble for my first 6 months of life. I never fully recovered, but as a result I've had constant D's and F's in gym class all throughout my school years. Lol.

Any advice?

If you don't have access to albuterol but you're exercising to the point of wheezing you're asking for trouble. If you insist on exercising before getting medication then take it really slow and stop at the first sign of any respiratory problems. You need to get a rescue inhaler (albuterol) at the very least. Generic forms are relatively cheap and you could probably get a prescription from a clinic pretty easily.

That is rather concerning---please budget for a doctor's appointment or find a free health clinic. People die from untreated asthma. Sorry to be morbid, but it happens.

Albuterol stopped being generic in the US in MDI form anyway when they phased out CFC's. The only cheap generic is via the nebulizer.

Please go see a doctor or find a clinic that is free or cheaper. At the very least you can get yourself a rescue inhaler. I would very slowly get into exercising and probably just stick to some walking for now.
