Wolverine is hott
You don't think Wolverine is hot? what's wrong with you?
Like that Summer's Eve commercial where the husband showers with his wife's lady parts wash?0 -
The answer is 27. Now what was the question?
^^ Wrong. The answer is always 42.
But we still don't know the question!
It's all right here, if you'd do the research...

Joking aside, a calorie is ALWAYS a calorie (just like a pound is always a pound, be it a pound of sand or a pound of marshmallows). What changes with age/metabolism is the daily amount of said calories needed due to several factors such as muscle mass, nutrient absorption, hormones, other calorie hungry tissue.. etc. The calorie itself is not proportional to age and metabolism, simply because it's a universal value that does not change.0

however not all calories carry the same amount of nutritional value, therefore a calorie is not a calorie.0 -

Not all miles have hills. Ergo, a mile is actually a foot.

two trains leave Philadelphia at the same time going 100MPH...John is on train A and consumes a 500 calorie breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast; Jim in on train B and consume a 500 calories of pancakes, syrup, and bacon...If takes both trains three hours to reach Boston...using the speed of the train and time taken to reach distance, calculate John and Jims metabolic rate based on their breakfast....0

Do you people not have jobs/schoolwork/families? How do you manage to discuss and debate the same topics day in, day out? I understand poor OP who doesn't understand that you can search the forums to find such information...but the old-timers with 25 million posts...how do you do it every day?
Seriously - is it a sincere desire to assist others, even if done in the most snarky way possible....or a compulsion/need to be right, masquerading as a desire to assist others....or just naked compulsion to be recognized as more knowledgeable than others? And whichever of the above applies, don't you get exhausted? Every time I see the words 'calorie' and 'calorie' and 'is a' in a new topic my heart sinks.0 -

But a mile in a Ferrari is better than a mile in a 1980 Rover Metro. And if the mile has steep hills the 1980 Rover Metro might not make it all the way.
And a mile riding on a unicorn that's farting rainbows is even better :drinker:0 -

That's a whole other topic. This topic asks if a calorie changes when certain parameters change. But to quickly answer your question, a calorie is a unit of energy and it IS just a calorie and nothing more. It does not contain nutrients. Nutrients, however, contain calories.0 -

a mile-long hill takes more energy to complete than a flat mile.

in most cases it comes from a genuine desire to help people understand how their bodies work and therefore make it easier for them to lose fat and keep it off in the long term
the calorie is a calorie issue is important because there are lots of people who "do everything right" in terms of eating clean, exercising, having a really healthy lifestyle... yet they're not losing weight because they're not actually eating at a deficit. No matter how "right" you do everything else, no deficit = no weight loss. That's just how biology works. Once you understand that, and that eating fewer calories than you burn off will result in weight loss no matter what foods are eaten, that's a very important piece of the jigsaw that enables people who've failed in the past to start actually losing weight. And me (or anyone else) saying that doesn't mean that eating a balanced diet isn't also necessary---- just that it's necessary for other reasons and without a deficit won't result in weight loss.
So basically: calories in v calories out for weight loss; macronutrient balance (i.e. the right proportions of protein fat and carbs) for good body composition (i.e. insuring the weight lost is all fat, and you're not losing lean mass): vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, fibre and water for good health (which should be high up on everyone's priority list)
Yep there's joking an humour involved in getting these points across, life would be boring without humour and cat gifs.0 -

I thought that if you took the square root of how many calories are in a raspberry ketone and then multiplied that by the amount of healthy sugars in your average piece of fruit and then divide by the average of your age and metabolic rate, it will give you the average amount of daily calories you should consume....
conversely, if you are able to locate all seven crystal skulls they will reveal the "right foods" to you ...but you have to put them in a circle, stand on your head, and drink a raspberry ketone shake.0 -

it's still the same distance. The mile does not get longer or shorter depending on whether it's on the flat or uphill, no matter how much it may feel that way when you're cycling up it.
a mile is a unit of length, What other things are along the way, whether it's a tree lined beautiful mile through the countryside or a mile through a polluted concrete jungle, it's still the same distance. You don't use miles to measure other things you encounter along the way.0 -

no one's suggesting the mile is any shorter or longer.
