Should I really be cutting out carbs?

Because that's what I hear pretty frequently. But to be honest, I stay at about 1200 calories a day but really like a piece of white pizza (I live in Italy) to accompany my salad or veggies. 75 grams of it comes out to about 230 calories.

What do you all think?

Do you have a medical reason to cut out carbs?

No, but I have been hearing it repeatedly from my mother in law and coworkers.

Unless you have medical issues there is no reason to cut carbs.

1200 is really low (MFP's bare minimum).....that's with zero exercise......so yeah, I think you can have some pizza. Mmmm, I love pizza.

    No.

I set a protein and fat minimum. Once I hit that, the rest is fair game - carbs, or more fat/protein. 1200 cals is pretty low, however, so you're going to be carb-limited by design using this method if your protein/fat goals are sufficient.

No. Your body needs carbs to use as fuel. Cutting carbs is a quick way to drop weight because it gets rid of water weight. This is not sustainable for most people in the long run. Losing weight is about being healthy and eating clean, not dieting.

I also agree 1200 is a bit low.

1200 calories in Italy sounds like torture.

Without a medical reason, no, there's no reason to cut carbs. I'd add the caveat that you shouldn't be eating so many carbs that you're not getting enough fat and protein, but other than that, carb it up. I love carbs and haven't ever gone below 200 grams of them per day. Right now I'm closer to 300.

It's OH SO GOOD here. I eat 1200, go the gym, and then eat back whatever I burn. Track it with the fitbit. Was losing about a pound a week but no progress this week.

Unless your doctor has advised you cut carbs, then there is no reason to cut them unless you want to.

With 15 lbs to go it's going to slow down. That's normal. And actually, in 5 more lbs I'd go ahead and change your goal to "lose .5 lbs per week."

Weight loss slows down as you get closer to goal. A pound a week is good. You might lose 2 pounds next week (who knows) ....I wouldn't worry about 1 or 2 weeks.

Not unless you have a medical reason to do so - and even then it might be a matter of which carbs.

Food is not good or bad. Anything in moderation.

I think that I can't imagine living without on 1200 calories and cutting out carbs. I cut my carbs down to 200-250g on a 2000 calorie diet. That's how I lost my weight, with a 2000 calorie diet, not by eliminating my favorite foods.

There is absolutely no reason to cut carbs out unless instructed to do so by qualified medical professionals. Those are the only people who should restrict your food. Here is the best starting point for you:
