Protein Shakes... Where do I start?

So I'm looking to maybe replace a meal a day with protein shakes or low cal shakes that are a decent size! I've seen teeny ones at the store that I know I wont stick to. So I was wondering what some of yall's favorite brands/flavors/etc.

I drink Garden of Life- Marley Coffee. It doesn't dissolve at all, very chalky but its tasty in almond milk.

start with why you want to replace a meal.

i drink protein shakes, but i drink them in addition to all the foods i eat all day.
i use them simply to help me meet my protein macro.

why do you feel you need meal replacement?

Muscle milk makes a light as well as a sugar free variety, available in powder or pre-mixed form. Very tasty! I recently cut downon mine though as I'd been consuming too much protein. Good luck to you, check out amazon.com, good prices and reviews!

I just posted about this! I just bought Designer Whey. Very affordable and super tasty! I had it as a meal, but I mixed it with skim milk, frozen strawberries, 1/2 a banana and some frozen black cherries. It had lots of fruit, too, making it a super healthy, filling lunch :)

Protein shakes aren't suitable meal replacements. Just eat food. Supplement with protein if you are lifting heavy stuff or otherwise can't hit your macros.

Be careful. I got majorly sick drinking protein drinks.

Gawh, at the risk of this going to Doug's head, gotta agree with this. I like Optimum Nutrition brand (chocolate) - I order it through Amazon - but use it only as a sometimes snack when I need more protein. I mix it with unsweetened coconut milk. You won't often see it on my food log though because it's hard to fit into the day when I'm all about food first and staying within my macros.

I see nothing wrong with adding protein shakes into your day, as long as you're not taking away from real food to do it.

I usually eat two bigger meals during the day,and a smaller dinner. I was thinking i could replace the dinner that i dont care for with a yummy shake or something since... i love dessert :P I try to make my meals balanced as well as possible but I just don't find myself eating a lot of meat... :/ I eat lots of veggies though... A LOT! but i find myself getting hungry still throughout the day. This is good advice! I always thought people used them as meal replacements so I assumed that would be the way to go :/ I was looking at my reports and my protein always seems to come up short...

I love Isopure Zero Carb Unflavored. Unflavored because I can use it wherever I want and make my own flavor shakes, oatmeal, etc.

If you decide to do this, at least get a shake that is meant for meal replacement, not just for protein supplementation. They should have lots of vitamins and minerals and some fiber in addition to the protein. Garden of Life makes a good meal replacement in their Raw line which also has probiotics and enzymes. It's a bit pricey, but one scoop is only 155 calories, and it could be mixed with 2 cups of unsweetened almond milk for barely over 200 calories total.
