I find it much more uncomfortable when women 'grunt' and sound like they are having an orgasm.
I still don't get why this is a thing.

Only because you are probably a heterosexual male.

Just for this, I am eagerly anticipating going to the gym in a little while where I am purposely going to grunt multiple times to test this out. I really doubt any of the guys will perceive it as sexual-sounding. But then, I'm kinda butch, so I probably won't push those buttons in them.

And for the OP, I just wanna reinforce the message that women make noises at the gym too. It's called maximal exertion.

there was a trainer at my old gym who sounded like he was getting off for EVERY rep. It was actually a little annoying- it was high pitched and very orgasm sounding.

    A dude.

occasionally I have heard women that sound like their are having getting off grunts- but meh- it's rare- I've only seen the one guy was REALLY like that.

Otherwise EVERYONE who trains hard grunts or swears at some point. it's reality. I don't get why this is a "men make noises" thread- because men and women do it.

    Get over and move on.

This is way I hold in any noises as much as I can; that scream internally thing I said earlier wasn't actually a quip, lol. I'm afraid of people thinking I enjoy lifting a little too much.

I've seen people lift heavier stuff then him, or work higher settings on rowing machines and not grunt. Its frustrating and very off putting when you're trying to concentrate on your own thing.

If you were concentrating on "your own thing" you probably wouldn't even notice, it can only be off putting if you let it bother you.......perhaps a pair of headphones would solve your problem.

BTW - you should hear me grunting on the last 2,00m or so of a really hard row..........

Consider yourself lucky he is grunting. I have heard a man fart while lifting...

I looked around to see if anyone else heard it and then looked at him ... It didn't phase him at all. :smokin:

Editing to add one more smiley. One wasn't enough

One guy at my husband's gym calls that "burning incense on the platform".

I was totally farting at the gym the other night. Sometimes you need that extra impulse to get to lockout. It's probably wisest to avoid going near lifters with an open flame.

So... that air has to go somewhere when you exhale. As has been explained, it passes across the vocal folds. It's simple phonetics and physiology. Or are you swallowing all that air, to get an extra push from the other end when needed?
