Getting Ready to Start Lifting

Not going to go to the gym, bought weights and a bench and going to do it at home. I have the weights (up to 110 lbs. to start) and I waiting for the bench to arrive probably early next week, it was shipped 2 days ago. Once it gets here we will have to get everything set up, my husband wants to try it too (if he likes it I will have to get more weights to add on pretty fast).

So, I am thinking a workout like this would be good?

http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/the-beginner-weight-training-workout-routine/

Then I found some how to videos here:

http://stronglifts.com/5x5/

And more useful information here:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbinfo.php?page=Over40

I am sure there are tons of youtube videos so I will peruse tomorrow since I have the day off.

If anybody has any newbie weight lifting knowledge they would like to share, I am all eyes.

I'm excited for you! Best decision.

Go slow at first, and just get used to good form.

I used Body For Life for years and New Rules Of Lifting For Women lately. It's all in there.

Doing a bulk after cutting will give you the body of a teenager if you get it right. There's a group here, Women who Bulk.

    Enjoy!

Thank you! Will stop by Amazon after this and order new rules. Right now just want to get out of overweight, made it out of obese and now 3.5 points away from being out of overweight, not that BMIs mean much except to my health insurance company. I look at your abs in your pictures and say yeah, I want that, heck my abs never looked that good, but my plan was to eat at maintenance once I finish getting the fat off (I feel like weight lifting is the missing piece to add to my pilates and t-tapp). I don't forsee myself bulking, but I never thought I would be buying weights and a bench either, yet I just did.

I still do some cardio here and there, but doing high intensity for 2 years wore me out, gave me a hiatal hernia (at least played a big role in it, you can't say things like jumping rope can't contribute) and I just never got the results I felt I deserved for all my hard work. I just know that won't be the case with lifting, this really goes more with my body type (I have always been on the strong and muscular side) and I am really excited to get started.

LOL, he is going to try it and see how it goes. If he likes it I am ordering more weights. The issue is he has a trick shoulder (like bone spurs or something, seems like that is a skinny guy thing) so he doesn't know how it will go. Years back he was doing some PT for that, so it may be the weight lifting will help him. He is no wuss for sure, you should see him out there splitting wood, he does have a lot of muscle already.
