Hi Guys, I like alot of people here am trying to loose weight, (28 lbs lost so far, 10lbs with myfitnesspal :) ).

I'm loosing weight and feeling great, my wearing cloths i haven't fitted into for a year or so.

Here's the thing, I was invited to a black tie dinner yesterday, so thought i'd see if my toux fitted (the last time i needed to wear it, almost 2 years ago, i was too fat and had to hire one), i tried my toux on and was plesantly supprised, it fitted and looked good across the shoulders, then i tried to button it up lol.

the jacket meets but doesn;t over lap, if it was a single breast jacket it would be fine, but as it double breasted it needs about a 3 inch over lap.

Now, down to my question, how much weight do you think i;d need to loose in order to reduce my spare tire around my gut buy 3 inches?

I weight 20 stone and am aiming for 15, the dinner is in 2 weeks lol, what are my odds? lol

Thanks guys lol

Al

ummmmm well it really depends on where the weight comes off. I tend to lose in my torso first (chest, tummy, hips) and if your gut is where is comes from, a couple pounds would probably do it. That said there is really no way to guess or target fat loss. COuld you borrow a jacket from a friend or relative? Instead of have to rent one... And then if yours fits in time you can just where it instead?
  • I know its a tough one lol, I'll just hire one if i have too, but it seems like an awesome target, but i'm not sure if its achieveable. I think i can get rent a toux the day i need it, so i could aim for wearing my toux and if i don't reach that goal i'll just hire one the morning i need it.

Do you think its do able tho?

I think, tho not sure, i've lost most of my weight from my gut, a bit all over but alot from my gut, i'd guess 3 - 4 inches lost off my gut from the start of my weight loss, so i might have to loos 2 stone in 2 weeks to fit it lol hope not

    Cheers

First of all congrats on your weight loss! It's great to fit back into the smaller clothes we wore when we were smaller people!
Lots of fat and calorie burning cardio is the best way to reduce the excess fat on your belly, and anywhere on your body. I'm not an nutrionist or expert, but I have heard a lot about reducing carbs and sodium to greatly decrease abdominal bulk. Having said that, I don't personally reccommend the atkins diet, but I have seen it work wonders for men trying to lose their midsection weight. Maybe try a less drastic, healhier version of that diet and reduce (not eliminate) your carbs and be extra careful of adding salt, and check the sodium in all the foods your eating. Also drink extra water and make sure you're getting enough fiber.
One odd litle thing I use to try to slim my waist is a "waist trimmer" ( I have used these type of waist trimmers occasionally during exercise for a few years now. Personally, I like the results. I've bought them at Target or Wal Mart stores, they have them online too. amazon or shooping.com)
Here is a description of one I found on the exercise tv website.....
"The GoFit Waist Away is a neoprene waist reducing belt. It is constructed of a layer of neoprene backed by four-way stretch nylon. Wearing the Waist Away is an effective way to increase the perspiration around the mid-section of the body; this becomes especially effective while training your abs. The added perspiration will help reduce inches and burn more fat in a faster and more isolated fashion during exercises."
  • Thanks for all the input.

@ srb2000, i was thinking of trying to wrap my midsection to try and compress it, it bit like the fat guy in the full monty if you have seen it, lol. Like him i was going to use klingfilm lol

  One of my friends did that and slept with it on the day/night before we were in another freind's wedding. It did work for her that day, her dressed zipped wihout sucking in! I'm sure she went back to original size the next day though, as that was all water weight. But hey sometimes we do some silly things in the name of beauty.
  • hehe, i think i'll just need it to last 20 miuntes, cos once we're in the venue all seated the first thing is the jackets come off lol.

or... does anyone know the breaking strain of a cumberbund? lol

From my experience, every 10lbs translates to another inch...if it fit previously, it will fit again...doesn't it feel great, working towards fit and healthy again...I'm in the same boat!

    Enjoy the affair!

lol don't do that Al, it might work, but you'll be dehydrated because all you lose is water!
  • lol, its free drink all night, i'll have that "liquid" back in no time, doubt i'll be able to do my jacket up when the end of the night comes lmao

I bet you can do a good job at getting to your goal...but just incase contact a good tailor...they can do wonders especially if you're making it easier for them by doing your best to get to where you need to be....I have faith in ya boy!

And be careful that night...open bar...yikes! lol
