*LIGHT BULB TIME*
There's something terribly askew with my old fashioned family recipe file.
I'm looking for a recipe for Easter dinner....I pull it out and I realize something....
90 % of it is desserts- broken into categories of pies, pastries, cookies, cakes and candies.
5 % is side dishes
and the other 5 % is breads
...and none of those are whole grain, whole wheat or low sugar or sodium.
And I wonder why we had a family history of obesity and high cholesterol???
Did it really have anything to do with GENETICS??
or might it have had a little to do with what we've all eaten at every meal???
...all kidding aside....I love to tweak recipes to lessen the damage...
but it sure makes me re-think the whole family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, etc.
I can't think of one person in my family to date that did anything to fight it until they had a heart attack
or a scare...and by then, not all the damage done can be reversed.
I applaud each of you who want to start a new recipe file for your own children and grandchildren.
Foods that taste great and are healthier versions of what Grandma and Mom made.
Happy Easter to all of you!
