Should I be upping my calories?

I am finally in the last 10 pounds stretch before I hit my goal weight of 125. I currently have MFP set to losing a pound a week and I'm not feeling deprived on the calories it gives me (1420 net), but I keep seeing people say that you should decrease to 0.5 pound a week when you're close to your goal. Is there a reason for that, like it makes transititioning to maintenance easier or something? Or is it just a personal choice?
