<--- recovered from PTSD and got fit

heavy lifting really helps and I'd totally recommend it, along with finding a therapist who is qualified and experienced at treating PTSD (not all of them are and the wrong kind of approach from a therapist can make it worse so definitely check their qualifications and experience, etc.)
  • I don't have PTSD nor have I ever suffered from it. If it's proving to be a stumbling block towards where you want to be with yourself, then maybe you should talk to a professional about it. I'm sure the military has people just for that.
Good luck with it, I understand it can be hard but try and let it effect you too much.

Hi, Rob! I'm a vet myself (retired AF). I've never experienced PTSD, but I do know that there are many resources out there at your disposal. Maybe you're not sure if you even have PTSD, but it's still important that you get it checked out. The sooner you get some treatment, the better. There's no longer the "stigma" there once was (back in my day) for seeking mental health treatment, so I say go talk to someone. If you're not sure where to start, maybe talk to one of the chaplains. I'm not a religious person myself, so I understand if you're hesitant to go that route. Your first sergeant is another option, If you'd rather not use the chain of command, there are usually anonymous hot lines you can call. I know at my base here there are posters all over the gym with information for folks who want help. Best of luck to you, and stay safe and sound!

I have suffered PTSD a few times in my life, yes, I have had an interesting life. Suffering from it now, not losing weight well. I am not and have not been in the military but I have been through some very traumatic things. If you want to add me, go ahead, though I am not always in a great head space, but you are welcome.
