Okay, I'm about to take the plunge and I've read most of the past posts on HRM, so I know the Polar F6 seems to be the monitor of choice and...I thought I was about to make the purchase when I found out that my local REI is having a sale on the Timex HRMs.

As far as I can tell, they seem to have most of the same features as the F6, except for the PC interface. they start at $89.95.

So could you tell me please, what features do you use the most on your HRM?

Does anyone have the Timex ?

The other thing I like about it is that it has a countdown timer and you can replace the battery yourself.

Would love some input!

I found that the Timex has bad reviews on the internet--you can check yourself by googling it but I didn't get it because of the reviews.

Like i said yesterday in my post, I decided to go with a HighGear one because it's cheaper--by a long shot--than the Polar and does everything I need. Got iftfrom Amazon for $40.

I bought the F11, and have yet to get the "uplink" stuff running. (that's what's known as an "owner patience deficiency", nothing wrong with the product) That being said, I love the thing. You can replace the chest strap battery yourself on the Polars, but the watch itself you can't. (because it's waterproof).

I would straight out ask the salesperson why the Timex is on sale. It could be that the shiny new model is coming out. . .or it could be that they're all coming back to the store or getting sent to the manufacturer for some reason. . .

Also, I second the idea of looking at online reviews. I use amazon to do that all the time.

On my polar, I use the calorie tracking workout feature daily, and use the fitness test (essentially just a resting heart rate) weekly. Because I am a complete dork, my favorite feature is that I get a little "trophy icon" when I complete my workout goals for the week.

Wait, the F6 and F11 both have a chest strap and pc uplink? Those are the things i'm really looking far... along with a stopwatch for interval training.

I'm still trying to decide which one to get when my income tax check finally shows up :)

I finally picked the Polar F6 and got mine on eBay for $83 w/shipping :) Yay! I just can't wait for it to get here!

Thanks all...about to become a googling machine now and will report back.

I liked how the Polar one has the little "bar graph" on the side...not sure how else to describe it...but it looks like an easy visual depiction of where you are with your HR.

    I'm so excited!
