Hey guys,
I was wondering if you can get a lot of protein in a budget. I'm sorry that i'm a cheapskate, but i try to save as much money as i can (maybe for later in college). Here is a couple of protein foods that are pretty cheap : egg, milk, tempeh, peanut, peanut butter, beans. What is your recommended cheap protein food? Thanks before

Chicken breast. If you catch it on sale, it's 2.99/pound. Also protein powder if you are willing to do that.0

Manager specials can be awesome. I got 9 steaks and a pack of spaetzel for $11.0

If you can shop at a warehouse type store like Costco or Sam's Club, the meat can be very reasonably priced. Also things like greek yogurt and cheese are also much better than a regular grocery store price.0

Are you looking only for lean protein? If you pair fattier cuts of meat (such as chicken legs) with steamed vegetables, the macros for the whole meal are quite acceptable for me.0

Someone said it above but greek yogurt is a great source of protein!0

I am def on a budget over here! My favorite protein foods are
frozen chicken breast (not pre cooked)
canned tuna (1 can has 24 grams of protein!)
eggs
egg whites
hummus
turkey breast
greek yogurt
I shop at aldi's, so I also buy their protein/weight loss shakes which are 4 for $3.50, their protein bars which are 6 for $3.00 and makes a lot of the other healthy foods I prefer much cheaper than other grocery stores in this area! (THe protein bars they have really arent the best ones out there, but they are better subs for a snickers or other candy bar when I am really craving chocolate.)
Another way I get cheap protein bars is to go to Giant Eagle or other grocery stores (even WalMart) once a week and check which ones have been marked "discountinued". They are normally on the verge of being past the sell by date, and sell for 50% off but still have over a month shelf life left, so I know that I will eat them before then! I have gotten good bars 5/$1 this way before!!0 -
Your list was pretty comprehensive, but I'd add lentils to it.
If you can find a store with bulk bins, like a whole foods, things like bulgur, couscous, and quinoa can be good bets too. They are a bit more expensive than white rice or pasta, but have more bang for the nutrtional buck, so I consider them worth the price.0
