Question about calorie count with heart rate monitor

Options
Hello! I use a heart rate monitor while working out to keep track of my heart rate percentage as well as calories burnt while exercising . I notice post workout, since my heart rate is still up, the monitor continues adding to the amount of calories that are being burnt while my heart slows down.

So my question is: do I log the amount of calories burnt as soon as I step off the treadmill (for example) or do i wait until my heart has slowed down to log the final calories burnt? I want to make sure im as accurate as possible, but i have been logging what the calorie amount is directly after stopping to be on the safe side.
If i'm burning more due to an after burn affect or something great!

Thank you for any input!

Definitely call anything "after burn" a bonus and do not log it! HRMs work much better in steady state exercise, anyway. For instance you couldn't wear it all day and calculate your calories burned. Even what it measures may still be an over estimate, so best to be on the safe side and at least hit stop once your exercise is over
