Hello Everyone,

It's been 8 months since I started dieting and using MFP, and it's been great ever since .. I weighed around 150kgs, now I am at 91.7 kgs .. My fitness got improved tremendously .. and I am liking the changes that I am experiencing .. It's feels great .. I sleep like a baby .. and full of energy ..

Now, ever since I started exercising .. I was sticking with cardio for 2 hours a day ( walking, jogging, swimming, fitness classes, elliptical, stationary bike, spinning .. etc ), I have some loose skin around my body .. I asked my trainer at the gym if it's suitable to start lifting some weights to fix some of that loose skin and he advised me not to until I reach 75kgs .. I am quite skeptical about this .. because I've heard lots of stories about people losing weight so fast that they are having some trouble with loose skin that can only be removed by surgery .. I don't want that to happen I want to take it naturally ..

Any input regarding this would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

and sorry for the long post xD

Follow your instinct and start lifting--and maybe get a new trainer.

Unless there's something you're not mentioning, I can't see any reason not to start doing weights several months ago :).

Ugh, I'd like to slap your trainer. Please do not approach this trainer for any further fitness advice, as very clearly he/she has no idea what they are talking about.

    Start lifting NOW.

There is no reason for you to not start lifting now.

Congrats on your loss so far :flowerforyou:

Not sure that lifting is going to help with lose skin. However you should be lifting. In fact there is no reason not to have been lifting all along. Lifting helps preserve muscle mass as you lose weight.

I have lost about 75lbs in 6 months. I've been lifting for about 3 months now. I should have started sooner, but to be honest was too embarrassed to step in a gym before then.

I have some lose skin, but not too much yet. It will probably get worse as I lose more weight. How you skin recovers is a function of age (younger the better) and genetics (not much you can do about that). I've also read that it can take as much as 2 years after you have reached maintenance until you know how much excess skin you will really have.

So, I'd suggest you start lifting, continue to lose weight, and don't worry about the excess skin. It is a badge of honor of a battle you have won.

Lifting will at help retain muscle and then let you increase muscle - more muscle means more 'stuff' under the skin to make up for the fat no longer there.

Start now. I took the "lose weight first, then lift" approach and I wish I had gone the other way. Building muscle is much harder than most people realize.

AARRRRGGGHHHHH Get a new trainer!! I hate the "lose weight first then lift" idea! It just makes it so much harder as you'll have less muscle then, If you start now it will help you to maintain the muscle you still have and improve your strength so when you're ready to build muscle it will be easier!
