not sure how to work it out in your dollars or to per gallon but we are at $1.87 per liter hubby just worked it out $7.46 gallon in our dollars just worked it out about $5.85 gallon in your dollars for us here in nz. and our petrol prices are rising fast all the time which sucks
food is getting out of hand and pay rises are non existent which sucks (oh but hubby just got one a couple mths ago but he works his arss off big time without complaining and never asks for a rise.
stop the war can we all live togeather in harmony please this is rediculas i hate all the fighting i have a brother over in english army stationed in Germany and often goes over to kuat and Iraq as a medic scears me since i have only knowen him 11 yrs now and meet twice.
we are trying to get gst taken off the healthy food basics to live but the government are saying no (oh gst is goods and services tax)0 -
In the summer we get our veggies from a CSA (community supported agriculture). We pay upfront for the whole summer and each week we get eight different veggies. The pick-up point is right near our house.
We are supporting a local farm and we stay out of the grocery store...keeps us away from the junk food in turn saving money. We did it last summer and loved it. You get exposed to things you wouldn't normally buy and find inventive recipes to use all of your stuff.
If anyone is interested you can check out http://www.localharvest.org/ and just search for your zip code.0 -
Wow, I thought ours was high but it's only $3.41 a gallon today! I guess we are getting a pretty good deal here in Iowa!
I would give anything to pay $3.41 a gallon! Here in the part of California that I live in it's anywhere from $3.90-4.05. And that's actually pretty cheap compared to other parts of Cali. It sucks.0 -

Thanks. I am looking it up now. Every penny counts. Our gas, food, and housing prices are going crazy here in Fl. :grumble:0 -
i live a mile from the school I teach at and would ride my bike except for two large problems- my teens that go to school with me- I don't think I can fit my 6'4" 200+ son into the bike cart. Anyways, I would smell bad when I get to school (68degrees at 5:30am:ohwell: ) and I would have to dodge parents and students driving to the school:sick:0

£5.00 in the uk0 -
so the lowest price for gas today in the Ottawa area today is 1.08 a liter..... which converts to 4.10 a gallon american (and considering our currency prices are close to equal at the moment)
It's $1.31.8 here in Nova Scotia...I'd be LOVING $1.08 at this point! It sucks!0 -
I might be doing this soon too. :indifferent:0

Isn't that funny. I'm doing the same thing. This year it's fruit....next year, it'll be tomatoes.... Good idea! Yes, EVERY little but counts!:drinker:0

here i go,
In the uk (and i am sure it si similar around the world) shell and BP (british gas) i have something like 6 billion profits in this years first quarter. now. i dont think the taxes are the problem. dont forget that taxes is what pays for you to have roads to drive on in the first place.
to be honest, and i know a lot of you will hate me now (if not already from previous very opiniated posts) ......... i dont think the gas prices are high enough, here my reasoning, if the prices go high enough, that means that everybody will start buying less of it, (good for everionment) and eventualy, hopefully, it will force us to have other more efficient, alternative to get around. we HAVE to stop being so darn addicted to petrol. me included !!!!!!!!!
by the way, i know someone posted the cost of petrol around the world, i know some country the gas is much cheaper, but dont forget to notice that in other parts of the world the gas is MUCH more expensive, therefor i think americans should feel happy about the price now, i could be worst !!!
ok... im done now. although i could have said much more on the subject, i'm a little passionated about environment and how bad us humans are for are little planet and fellow creatures living on it.

Exxon Mobile made the second largest profit this 1st quarter of any company on record, over 10 BILLION dollars. 1st place?
Exxon Mobil last quarter.

The oil companies that then get MASSIVE tax breaks from the government. . .which is staffed by people who used to work for oil companies. . .
may_marie, I agree with you about high gas prices not being the problem. The problem is more along the lines of no sidewalks and no walking (a mile is just not that far. . .I walk a mile and don't even think about it anymore living in the city. . .walking is less of a hassle than parking) but when I go to Toledo, Ohio to visit. . .I can't walk anywhere because there are no sidewalks to walk on. Taxes aren't the devil, folks . . .taxes repair your roads and bridges. The problem is who is carrying the burden of the taxes. (the middle class and not the rich)
OH no. . .my grandma said never talk about religion or politics. Oops.0 -
Totaly agree vivi, now that i live in europe, i could not it more clearly,
here, very town, village, city,, have a pedestrian zone in the downtown, called the highstreet, where all the shops are ... you dont have a choice then to walk, and parking is hell, the street are very narrow, the towns here are made for people walking and not cars, you can live here without a car and not miss it one little bit ( i say that, but i dont have a car, but i rent one once in a little just because i want to visit places a little more afield, i have no excuse to not take the train, must be my canadian roots, sighh)
at home (canada and usa, even worst in the us,,,tell tell me i dont know squat, i visited more states then the vast majority of americans) the shopping areas are long huge blvd, you have to walk a long distance between stores, that is if the shopping plazas are totaly out of town, those areas are making replaces the good old mall. witch still made you walk quite a bit,
everybody complains about taxes, they dont want to pay it, or they will vote for whoever promisses taxe cuts, (see what happened with harper !!! come on!!!) but they complain when they have long waiting times in hopistals, or crime is taking over, or when public transport sucks,
i say, pay your taxes and be proud of it !!!!!!!!!0
