Please help me with eating at a buffet...

How do I measure my calorie intake at an asian buffet restaurant? Especially when I'm eating sushi.

It is hard to measure at a buffet because you don't know all of the ingredients in the food. It is one of those times you have to take your best guess.

AYCE sushi is easy. write down what you had and how much of it and then log it when your done. With sushi, stay away from rolls and stick to the nigiri. Each peice of nigiri averages about 50 calories depending on what type of fish it is. If you must do rolls, nothing deep fried, no spicy mayo and you're okay. As for other foods on a buffet, just remember portion sizes are much smaller than you would think so take smaller portions.

Start at the ends, that's where they put the expensive stuff.

"Stack it high, watch it fly" is my motto with buffets

I try to avoid those buffets all together but it's difficult. We have one near us and I love their sushi...

I always try to go for the hibachi/stir fry station first and load up on the veggies and a protein, this way I know exactly what I'm getting, how it's cooked and can control my own portion. Plus it fills me up quite a bit and then the rest of the buffet doesn't look so good anymore. For the sushi I stick to some seaweed salad and Sashimi, if I do get rolls I try to get the low carb ones and/or ask the chef to make me some with cucumber instead of rice. As far as buffet options... Again, I try to go for mostly the vegetable and protein options... I stay away from the spring rolls, fried stuff, chicken wings, things that I just know are high in fats, deep fried and items that have several ingredients so I'd have no idea what is actually in it or how it's cooked e.g., saucy things, etc

OR... just don't go. OR if you do go, just don't even worry about it and get what you want :)
