Bloating..about HAD it..

I am in need of some advice..I seem to bloat after EVERY meal. At first I thought it was just certain foods..but lately its been almost ANYTHING I eat. Ive tried alot of OTC Gas meds..Beano, generic beano and Gas X..with some success here and there..but nothing that aleviates it.

I get tired of it..morning I wake up feeling great and by night my belly is bloated and I feel ick. My diary is open..I truly dont think its the actual food Im eating..as a whole. Does anyone deal with this? Remedies?

Lowering carbs can lower the bloating feeling for some. But are you sure you aren't confusing full with bloating?

Have you tried systematically looking for food intolerances? Eliminating all dairy for a week, reintroducing. Then gluten, etc? If it's a food sensitivity, systematic elimination would help you figure it out.

    Mabey I need too..

I even entertained the thought of it being the dairy..but I really dont feel the most icky til about 2:30..and I generally have dairy in the AM (milk) and then when I get home (a greek yogurt)..

Guess Ill cut out flaxseed and see if that helps..wonder how long it takes to see a difference if thats what it is?

I need to go to the doctor anyway (I have this HUGE bruise on my thigh that wont go away..hubby is worried Im going to get blood posioning)..so perhaps Ill take to the doc about it.

Maybe not just eat more slowly but really masticate the food.
  • That used to happen to me constantly and then I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome a year ago. I just had to keep a food diary (like we do on here) and try and pinpoint what set me off. I have real issues with vegetable soup, especially when it's pureed; I changed to lactose free milk for 6 months and that helped a lot (I am back on normal stuff now); tea has been another issue (I LOVE tea and drink far too much!), so I switched to peppermint and limit myself to two cups of 'normal' tea a day. Stress is a huge factor for me too, so I really need to be aware of when I am in a stressful situation and remove myself from it where possible.
I hope your doctor can help. Good luck.

I'm guessing it's the dairy too (milk and the yogurt). Almond and coconut milk are good alternatives.

Milk in the morning does this to me too, although not as extreme. I don't have breakfast cereals anymore as a result, but I still have about 1/2 cup of milk spread out over the day.

i could have written this post...in fact, i think i have written one very similar. i even went to two doctors regarding the bloating. my stomach would start out flat (or flat-ish), and by the end of the day I looked 9 months pregnant. both doctors suggested either gluten or dairy to be the culprit. I stopped the dairy. well, actually, i would still eat some items containing cheese, but eliminated the big milk items (like yogurt). i switched to almond milk to get my calcium in. I scaled down on gluten but didn't eliminate it completely. it worked! now if i can just cut out the sugarless gum by the pack....(bloat city).

I am used to it now, still have a little bit every once in a while but for the most part now that dairy is mostly out of my diet I am excellent!

I've actually found taking a daily probiotic helps me with feeling gassy/bloaty. You might try that. :)

Thanks so much folks! I did not have the flaxseed yesterday..still had my morning milk, an afternoon greek yogurt and actually had a string cheese for a snack about 5:30..

I did not feel AS bloated..but I did bloat abit early afternoon..hmm..

I may get some lactaid and see if it helps. Growing up I was never a big milk drinker..I like to mix the milk with my protein powder in the AM..Im wondering, if it is the dairy, what my options are? obviously cant mix yogurt (if its dairy!)..mabey some mashed bananas and ice? (looking for options outside of almond milk)

My husband is lactose intolerant and buys the Lactaid brand products....milk, ice cream, etc. I can't taste the difference. Breyers also makes a lactose free ice cream that is good.

Could be dairy, but it could also be that your body is adjusting to a higher intake of fiber! When I first started out that made me very bloated and gassy, it will pass as your body adjusts.

I have this issue when I consume protien shakes. Kelloggs shakes don't do it as bad but the powder shakes do it every single time. I've tried them with water and almond milk and both ways causes bloating/gas. That might be something to cut for a couple days to see if it helps. Good luck!

I have seen in the stores yogurt that is dairy free, not too sure the brand, and I do know that Silk makes a dairy free yogurt as well, haven't tried it as I can't find any where I live. I started having protein shakes after my workouts and I use the almond/coconut milk blend and I love it and I mix it with a chocolate protein powder. Also I noticed in your diary you don't drink water at all, unless you just don't log it, if you don't drink it start drinking at least 64 oz min a day and it may help too.

    Good luck!

I have issues with too much gluten filled products. If I eat a lot of bread, pizza crusts, pasta, that kind of thing it totally upsets my digestive system and makes me bloat horribly. I think like someone suggested, eliminating each food group for a week or two will give you a good idea as to what is bothering you or creating an intolerance. I knew within a week it was wheat products, dairy at least yogurt, cheese, and keifer didn't seem to bother me. Elimination is the only way to figure it out for sure. Good luck.

Some foods can cause bloating. These include legumes, cruciferous vegetables (eg. cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli), dairy, carbonated beverages (regular or diet), high fibre and sugar alcohols (eg. sorbitol). Both sugar and sodium (salt, hidden salt) can cause water retention too. If you are drinking diet soda or chewing sugar free gum, both can cause bloating. If you are eating low fat or 0% fat, they tend to have higher amounts of sugar and salt to counteract the loss of flavour from no fat. If you are eating more fruits, vegetables and high fibre foods, the higher fibre will cause bloating until your body adjusts to it. These are all foods that may be causing bloating problems for you.

I would still encourage more investigation with the dairy. for fiber, i personally have better luck with something like "all bran" cereal (something like 45-52% of your fiber in one-half cup). it is nice mixed with fruit and almond or soy milk or apple sauce.

hmm..OK..I like something easy to fullfill my daily needs..why I asked about metamucil. I saw there is now a gummy out that you can take to get fiber too..my husband has encouraged oatmeal in the AM..wonder if I could make a bar of some sort with the bran cereal..what about Grape Nuts? I love grapenuts.

I ate lunch..took some Gas X after and my stomach is rolling, growling and making all sorts of weird noises...Im not terriably bloated but my stomach is NOT happy!

I guess Ill formulate a plan to take dairy out for abit..or would taking Lactaid (and if it positively helps my situation) prove the same point, that dairy is doing me in?

It's usually dairy, wheat, and/or sugar. It could be one, two, or all three. All I know is when I'm not eating any of those, I get no gas and no bloating. I also don't ride the high then real low energy wave. For me it's hard to maintain not having any sugar and small amounts of wheat , though.

I think lactaid helps to some extent. i have taken it before. certainly better than nothing if dairy is indeed your cause for bloating.

grape nuts has fiber...but there are some fiber cereals that take the cake (so to speak) when it comes to dietary fiber. the good news is...you don't need to eat a lot as they are relatively condensed cereals. I would give All Bran a try (or maybe just google it). oatmeal is wonderful, healthy and yummy...but unless you buy a pre-packaged brand that specifically states it is high in fiber--you don't get a tremendous amount of fiber via oatmeal. but then again, you may not need all that fiber.

i would also check out almond milk. you can get the ultra low cal kind (30 calories per 8 ounces)...or a higher calorie (most likely tastier) kind. "Silk" and "Almond Breeze" in the refrigerator case have some nice options.

for what it is worth...none of the anti-bloating remedies (gas-x and equivalents) have ever provided me with bloating relief.
  • Have you tried to up your water intake. I did that and ya I pee a lot but I feel so much better.
