Running with 5lb weights?

I would really like to tone my arms and I was wondering if running on a treadmill while you carry weights for example 5lb would work plus made you lose more calories. I don’t have a gym membership but do have a treadmill at home and 5 lb weights. Any other home workouts that could help with toning ?

The extra calorie burn would be very minimal. As would any benefit to your arms.

There are tons of workout plans that use your body weight alone. You are Your Own Gym is one - there is a book and an app if you have a smart phone (think the app was lik $2.99)

as far as workouts at home for toning, Kettle bells are great full body exercise (come in different weights, use a smaller one for just toning), also yoga (I'd suggest DDP Yoga)

Don't put the weights on any joints (the kind that strap to your leg or arms.)

No - don't do this. It will likely alter your form and make you more prone to injury. If you want to tone, even 20 minutes after the treadmill can make a difference. Don't run with weights.

It sure sounds like a short cut to injury. If you want to tone your body, try resistance training.

To ehem..."tone", you need some sort of progressive lifting program.
